Help - Not Firing!

Why'd you disassemble your motor just because of water ingestion in the 1st place? Did you try to crank out the water and it still wouldn't start?

thats what I was thinking......

VERY unnecessary........AS LONG AS you can get it running ont he beach again...(aptly named the plug dance)

this can easily take you 10-20 even 30 plug changes to get things dried out...

Here's a trick that butti and I figured out for when you ingest water:

1. tilt ski on side, plugs out and try to blow as much water out as possible
2. put in a set of #7 plugs...(they burn hotter than the 8's)
3. while ski is cranking with 7's, pump your primer like its going out of style...

this is somethign we stumbled upon, then we able to repeat the result at least 3-4 times.....

good luck!

my friends 550 wouldnt crank, bad head gasket... i put a little oil through the plug holes to each cylinder. its thicker than gas and it fired right up when i cranked it. the oil helps "seal" the "leaks" in the cylinder, bumping the compression to get it to run, basically. just a helpful hint

i tried putting it on its side and cranking it over, and all the water didnt come out, everything was a thick milky oil that wouldnt come out so i had to disassemble to clean out crank\sleeves\ports... trust me i woudla loved the idea of just crankin it out

it would have worked man...TRUST ME..........I have had my boat totally sunnk at least 10 times and have NEVER not been able to get it going on the beach...

now, sometimes it does take a good hour and a batt or 2....but eventurally it'd fire especially if you use the tips I wrote out above

thats why we are never at the beach without at least 1-2 cans of ether, and 2 sets of #7's....you want to dry the plugs with ether after every attempt.....and even spray a little down the jugs.....the primer trick works like a dream though..

tore it down again, rings are fine... i assume they are in the right location as they compress fairly easy with my fingers to slide them into the sleeves..... still wont fire... checked crank case for leak even re did seal with gasket maker...

question, does the entire crank fill with oil\gas or does it only sit at the bottom ? i almost got it to fire, but it still wont..... only thing i havent tried is new plugs ... doh .. tomorrows task... i hope this is the problem... is this common when swamping motors to replace the plugs or are they still usable... they do spark

i did a little test to check the rings ... with the head off, i poured some gas\oil mix ontop of the pistons... the fuel slowly disappeared as it must have leaked down the sides of the piston.... i assume this is correct?

ummm, the cases shouldnt really have any standing liquid in them.

I think you potentially have the engine flooded.

and also, I am curious about your ring seal now.

Im not sure how your compression numbers dropped by over 100 psi by running the engine for 5 seconds and trying to crank it again.

something there doesnt ad up.

dry those plugs with starting fluid or brake cleaner, wipe the liquid out of the crank case.

dribble some premix down the plug holes, install plugs.

hold your hand over the carbs ( manually choke it)
and try to crank it.
