FX-1 help my FX-1 rise!!!

I have a 94 FX-1, was really pumped to fix it up and ride. I now have everything in place, and then . . .

The stator burns out. Yamaha dealer quotes it at around $900 repaired (part nearly $500).

What do you guys think. I am tempted to looks for used parts, and do the repairs. I want this thing to ride. $900 is a pricey fix.

opinions, help....please

Don't even think of buying a new stator... You should find a used one for $100-$200 USD Max

Then go ride. (Have the fly wheel lightened while it's removed)

excuse the newbness to the legend,

can the stock flywheel be lightened without extensive work, or damage to the integrity of the wheel?

or go aftermarket while it is open?

Not sure if youve already got the install planned out but its pretty simple. All you will need to do is remove the flywheel cover (7ish bolts). Then remove the flywheel (remove the bolt then use a harmonic balancer puller to get the wheel off). Then there are i think 2 phillips head screws that hold the stator on. Remove them and pull it out, and replace. Just make sure the alignment mark is lined up when reinstalling. Be careful with the flywheel cover bolts. I broke one off in the case and couldnt get it out for the life of me without damaging the threads severely. Now im just using 6 of the bolts and some extra silicone

In case anyone was following, its running great now. Next step is a hydroturf job, pads are peeling bad and the black doesnt match the bright color scheme I have going.

Thanks guys.
