help! (glass work)

how would you guys reglass this? It's how i got it. Just wanted to know what steps you guys would take?


the guy i bout it from said that it had dips everywere. It's why he cut out all of this. then he gave up, i got it for 500.00. Here is a pic, if it came out ok.

maby i should explain. there is a 3/8ths gap between the sides and a 1/2 in gap in the tray from foam to top. what would be the best way to fix this?

Can you possibly get ahold of the guy you got it from and get back the pieces he cut out?? That would be the easiest solution in my opinion.

Make it so you gunwhales have holes/see through passages in them! I haven't seen a ski like that yet...

First, I would sand the edges of each hole to a shallow angle. Also, sand the entire tray to get rid of all paint and glue residue.

You will need to add some thickness to the existing foam. Use some rigid sheet type foam and just spot-glue it on.
Or, use expanding foam. Pour a little on top of the surface, let it expand, and then sand to desired thickness.
For the sides, just tip the ski over to where the foam surface is horizontal.
Then glass over it, at least 4 layers of biax. Start out with a piece that's only a bit larger than the hole, then get bigger.

that's strange why he would have cut both the inside and outside of the gunwale like that. I usually just cut inside (tray area) of the gunwale to refoam.

You can also purchase structural fiber glass sheets from McMaster Carr to fill in the holes and glass the seams.

You can do that, but imho it's going to be more complicated and not as strong. It would work, though.

i got the compleate ski, and the reson he cut them out was he was trying to fix the dips in the body that had acured. the one that concerns me is the ouside one. the one you can see. i plan on doing a top deck conversion next winter so i don't want to get too complicated with it.

I think you need to dig out all the foam so that you can repair the 'outside' holes from the inside. In that area it might be worthwhile to get /make some solid panels to glue in, depending on how much room you end up having to work with. In any case that will be the hardest part for sure. (especially since there it has to look good!)

slap biax on it and wet out with epoxy.
