HELP... Engine will not turn over

I have a 1990 superjet and the engine will not turn over on it. I replaced the coil today thinking it was that but it still did not want to start. I took out the spark plugs and held them up to metal to see if they would spark and they would not. Every once in a while if I try enough times it will turn over and start up and I will ride it with no problems whatsoever. Could this be my stator and if so is there an easy way to fix this or do I have to buy a new one?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You need to be more specific...not turning over is the motor does nothing, is it or is it not cranking? If it is cranking then are you saying that its not getting spark is intermitant? Is it stock electronics? Have you checked the kill switch? Have you checked all connections?

All stock electronics with super clean e box. His ski has been totally non responsive sometimes, and other its will turn over without starting. Sometimes it turns over right away and will take many tries to get any spark.

If I work the stop button his ski, it seems to turn over more often. Could a faulty stop switch cause it to turn over but not spark? Coil has been replaced so its either the start stop switch or stator thats the problem. maybe both.. but the electrical issue needs to be solved for daytona!

yup,, easy way to test if its the s/s switch is to jump the wires inside the connection boot just outside the ebox.

Black/white is start, brown/red is stop if memory serves me right.. just try them both it wont hurt anything or look at the manual.

Good call guys. I totally forgot about doing that. Had to do it on my ski a couple years ago to weed out some electrical problems. We'll try it tomorow and see what the result is

Found the problem on that ski today. The start stop switch was the culprite. Strange how a bad start/stop could also cause the motor to turn over and not spark, but all problems are solved!

I know that I've said it before, but you can easily rebuild those little buttons. There's no need to buy a new one. Usually the little tiny spring inside the button rusts into nothing and there is general corrosion in there. Clean everything up and then replace the spring with a sliver cut lengthwise from a piece of silicon fuel line for nitro rc cars. cut the sliver to be about the same size as the original spring and it'll work great and not corrode again.
