Help comparing XScream 828 vs 865

I know you can make some good power with a stock stroke. I rode an SS and it was scary fast and very quick. It had total loss, 140 mag pump, dual 48's,and ran race fuel. It was a closed course race boat "yes" I said a race boat, but it hit so hard you had to use the down trim to keep it from jumping out of the water and this is with a heavy stock hull. So yes I believe you can make good power with a stock stroke. I can only imagine what a stroker crank would add to this particular SS. I guess that would make it an 828.
When I say SS I mean it in it's original form. SUPER STOCK. This means under 785cc an oem cylinder and a stock hull. I am sure there are still some real good running super stocks out there. The problem is there are Super Stocks and then there are real SUPER STOCKS. On the outside they both look the same. In the hands of the right engine builder performance is more than skin deep.
Yes they don't look as purdy as the billets but man can they make you look at performance in a whole different way.

Sure, I'll agree with you, but our SS 865 package was designed to use in this freeride/freestyle market, most use: 'B' pipes (not a race dry pipe), stock ignition with a cdi/flywheel upgrade, mostly stock pumps with some upgrades, stock Mikuni's or aftermarket Mikuni's (not necessarily huge race carbs, more $$), and the BIGGIE, Race fuel!

If you took most of the Freeride/Freestyle market engines that they are currently running and add the Superstock race parts and high octane race fuel, like your discussing, of course the performance level of the engine package improves greatly, but this is not comparing apples to apples.

This SS865 engine package was designed to get to the Superstock level power without the Superstock race parts add on's and most run on standard pump fuels. Of course the saying always goes...They're s no substitute for 'Cubic Inches' in this case 'CC's. If we don't have rules to stay under 785cc, bigger IS better.
In IJSBA Freestyle rules are 900cc limit in Amateur Class and 1200 cc's in Pro Freestyle.

I wasn't comparing a Superstock to a billet cylinder stock stroke of over 850 cc that would be comparing apples to oranges. I was merely pointing the fact that you can make a lot of power with a stock stroke.

And yes I am their #1 fanboy. lol I am not a sponsored rider, I pay for all parts and labor, but Art and Robert GIVE ME tons of satisfaction everytime I squeeze my KVPI trigger that is attached to my BlackJack carbs that are attached to my 838cc 5 mil Lamey stroker ported and setup by Jetworks! I would have never dreamed of being sooo happy with my setup!

Don't get me wrong-X Scream builds good stuff too, just sayin explore all options and then decide.

damn ya got a ll that and cant roll:)

Never noticed much of one when you look closely at what is supplied and what you have to supply.

WOW, my little XS motor is 3 years old.
Time to change the plugs yet ?

As stated in the thread you are quoting that from, when u want every last ounce of everything you paid for-change your dam plugs, if you are ok with mediocre-then don't!

I'll have to do some more research then.

Shoot them both a email and tell them you want a apples to apples price comparison. We don't care about the actual dollar amounts, just the amount of price difference and who is higher. I never said Art was the cheapest game in town, but if you let him put together a package deal, he can save you alot of money as I am sure Team Scream does as well.

If Boris were to read my ENTIRE previous post he would have saw that I said Team Scream is good as well......... (I guess some people have a complex). The simple diference between Art and several other builders is Art does not build a engine with bottom end hit only-his engines have so many hits throughout the powercurve that you lose track. They hit off the bottom, hit again in the mid, and then hit on top as well IF you do everything he tells you to do.

Does that recommendation come from your engine builder?

MAYBE Boris was just stating how little maintenance his XS motor has required over the last 3 years?

It is easy to see who that is.....

To the OP, I think you got your question answered (about XS stroker vs SS), there are some great builders out there too. Good luck with whatever you decide.
All I know is my SS865 pulls hard and smooth through the ENTIRE RPM range.

Art does recommend changing the plugs every 30 gallons or so, especially when using avgas and race gas with lead content. He says the lead builds up on the plugs and diminishes performance.
I run a 3:2 mix avgas: pump gas and do notice aperformance and throttle response difference after changing plugs that have been in the engine a while.
This may not apply to unleaded pump gas, I don't know.

That makes some sense (30 gallons is a fair amount)

My SS865 is setup for pump gas so I guess I dont have to worry about that.

I just completed 260 gallons on my xc1000, and changed the plug 2 times, thats sound fair to me.
Just got the motor all apart, not a single scratch on the cylinder walls. it looks brand new, so now getting a new crank and new set of pistons, just to be safe

How does the 865 set up work in a stock hull ? If well set up tbm b pipe msd trim etc will it flip ? ( if you have the skill) would love to run one in a rikter but my money only goes so far .need to use it in the surf and flat water so would rather not run total loss

My opinion is that total loss completes the power package of any engine package.

In my opinion there isnt poor total loss only poor installation - We have used ATP earlier generation systems for 3 yrs salt and freshwater without any problems.

And it wasn't from you, Gil.
Frankly, I am both shocked and surprised.
