Help: Backflip off of single boat wake

I'm heading out to visit a cousin the last weekend in june. he has the top of the line malibu wake board boat. I've almost got my frankenstein motor back together and I have a raider trim nozzle on the shelf. he invited me to come up and jump his wake all weekend. I'm thinking it's about time to try to flip his wake. I'm tight on time and cash but I think I can get my new parts (and a few yet to be ordered) on intime.

what is the best angle of attack on his wake (single wake)? there may be a few opportunities to to try a double up but he other baot is a smallish open bow ski boat.

any advice welcomed!

:brap:

ok, what makes for the best wakes? full water balast (or whatever they call it) with some speed? does he even need speed to make a powerfull wake? do I want to hit it 90 degrees?

a guy was telling me you can do a "triple up" w/ one boat... check some wakeboarding sites for instruction

double up:
The idea is to hit your wake at 90 degrees AND to keep the boat up to speed. By making a wide turn you allow the boat to regain some lost speed. Start with your normal barbell turn. The only difference is that your turn will be much wider. As you approach the wake, keep the boat at 90 degrees and flat. Do not begin to go back down your path until after the boarder has landed his flight. This is much easier to do from the backside. The driver will need to turn clockwise for regular stances and counter clockwise for goofy.

triple up:
The Ultimate wake is the “Triple Up”. You do this by creating a kink in you wake about 150 feet BEFORE the turn. Do this by turning hard in the direction of your turn for a second and then straighten back out. Proceed into the turn as though it’s a double up. The boat will go about 10-15 feet to the left or right, depending on your direction, of the kinked part of the wake. Again the rider should follow the trough after the first small roller. Good luck! This is a bit tricky and requires a skilled boat driver.

To hit the double or triple up takes a little bit of practice. First, edge away from the boat on the inside of the turn. Then you need to watch the rollers from the old wake. You want to miss the first small one. After this roller there will be a trough. Ride this trough into the converging wakes. Keep your eye on the wake your riding. You will see it form the double up just before you hit it! Tell us what it feels like after you hit correctly! It’s pretty damn cool!

Honestly Demon,

If there is 2 boats utilize both of their wakes. I assume you cousin has a Wakesetter. There arn't many wakes out ther better than that.

Even if the other boat is a direct drive or I/O open bow, don't worry about it. As long as the 2 boat as synched together get them to run parallel to eachother and rip between the middle of them.

We had 2 boats running together the other weekend (no one was on a ski unfortunately). They were chitty little fishing boats with outboards, and I was very impressed with the wake, both with 2 people in them chugging at useless speed.

Not enough to backflip off of, but with a Wakesetter and a general runabout you should get the desired wake.

You can always resort to the doubleup, but the problem with a double up is you usually have to run through the chop to get the PRIMO wake face your looking for. If its the first time setting up for a flip off a wake, you'll want to entry to the wake as smooth as possible so you can prep your ski and body how you need it to be for LIFTOFF!

Good luck.

werd. we'll try that too.

the second wake will have the steepest face, not the one right off the boat

The second wake is more of a roller, you need the wave to be "breaking". IMO the best way is load one side of the boat with as much weight as it will take and have him (driver) go about 9-14 mph so the wave is cresting about 10 feet behind the boat.

If the boat is driving in a straight line (we'll call that 12 oclock) I would say you need to come in at the wave (first wave) from 1-3 oclock slow and from there I think you know what your looking for as to where and when to give it the :brap: I've never done a back flip nor have I tried one for that matter. :purr:

I haven't tried any flips yet. Just some half a$$ rolls of a friends boat. The u-turn works good for some big waves, and a complete circle like the first pic yamaslut posted. It's kinda hard to time it right. I usually just follow right behind him then hit the double up as he cuts back through his own wake. The u shaped turn is harder to hit because you're going through his wake trying to get to the double up. Hope this makes sense.

Slutty I believe those are for wakeboarding. They are hitting the wake 70 feet behind the boat while the boat is moving 22-25 mhp. I don't think it would work very well like that.

You all come over here and we can try all friggen day. I've got a 40 gallon gas tank on the boat.
