head question

well i bought what was supposedly a RIVA girdled head minus hardware with 35 domes. when i got it in the mail it was a RIVA non girdled head with non-removable 35 domes.

i probably still didnt get a bad deal since i paid 95 bucks to my door. I haven't contacted the seller yet because I'm not sure if its even worth the hassle of trying to send it back because its probably a still a decent head, and atleast now i dont have to buy the girdled hardware, just get some longer ss bolts which i probably can get for free.

i have a sportported 61x engine with pipe. all my riding is lake riding, and i'm not that evolved in tricks yet. i'm thinking i can survive without a girdled head, i know geeks old motor had the same porting as mine and he just ran a milled head and was ok.

what do you think that RIVA non-girdled, 2 pc head is worth? and do you think i'll be fine with that head?

DUDE, I read that post, and that guy said it was a girdled head minus hardware. You even asked if he was sure. Prolly a mistake, but I'd send it back for sure. Thats no different than a cut and reshaped stock head IMO. It may cool a little better, but thats it.

Yeah, but to modify a stock head is $100, and at least with the Riva you use o-ring seals (which are reusable, so you save some money there).

Who'd you buy it from? I don't think that was a great deal, but it's still worth it. It's the dry pipes that really kill the cylinders, so you should be fine.

Who needs o-rings with that little amount of compression? I'd send it back

I would because they're reusable... whereas a head gasket is like $20 a pop.

Me, I'd send it back too, but I have girdle heads in stock

The nice thing about removable domes is you can keep that head with any 701 combo you do through the years. The o-rings are a plus as well. When I had my kawi 650 I had to change head gaskets a couple of times and they were $18 each. Then you have to factor in the thickness as well. My yamaha 650 motor had a protec o-ring head on it and I never had a problem. If you ever get detonation that shreds a plug= piston and dome damage at least that will save you some cash by not having to get anouther head, just domes. I would not sell yourself short and eat it.....send it back.
