mine has had sealant on it for a long time with no problems, but i prefer to do them dry as well.

never really liked it my self. used it on smaller engine big wheel pit bike. strange bolt on engine and i couldn't fing top end gasket kit.

Install it dry the gasket is resin impregnated and once you heat it up it activates the resin in the gasket.

I'm getting ready to do this and would love to see some pics of your project.
pull off the airbox, loosen lord mounts to pipe, pull pipe away.
Loosed head nuts in order, a little at a time to avoid warpage
I tapped the head lightly with a rubber mallet per the manual
No luck
So I put the plugs back in had tight and bumped the starter. Popped the head right off

the stuff on the head was not sealer, it was from the oem head gasket.
unfortunately I could not get off this lord mount
needlenose vise grips spin the bottom waser but it doesnt unscrew
the lower lord mount on the pipe was about shot too:bad3:
so I cannot use the new head, its 75 degrees and I am bumming

so I put down the camera, cleaned up the mating surfaces of the old head with carb cleaner and elbow grease.
I did not want to scratch the mating surfaces so I used my fingernail to get the goop off.
once totally clean, I reinstalled the old head with new head gasket
torque the head bolts to 11 then 22 ft lbs as instructed, in order, reattached the pipe etc and went riding.:woot:
except now I need another head gasket and two lord mounts
time to post a WTB thread, I guess
the moral of the story- have spare consumables like lord mounts ready
and dont tear into a ski when it is 75 and sunny

TYVM - very helpful posts. I need to order my gaskets and get busy.
I checked compression on mine today and had @170 in each. Does this mean the head has been milled or something? This is my first season with skis but I thought I had read that high compression can equal high maintenance. Not sure what if anything to do about that. Probably will replace the gasket and run it till it quits.

Heat the boss on the head up a with a propane torch, just not too hot to destroy the lord mount. This might get it to break loose and save buying a new one..
