650/X-2 Have a question on turfing the rails ?

When you put it on do you fold it over the bottom part of the rail or cut it off at the edge ?

cut it off at the edge, at a 45 degree angle. |/ < this is stupid but the first line is your hull... the second is the DIRECTION you angle your knife. just at 45 degrees... sorry if that really makes no sense

Ya I got that but there is going to be 3 sections of turf on the rails nose, side, side. So all the creases are cut 45 right.
So... The rail is here. ---------/crease/----------

I put the turf on the rails a bit below the rail then used a brand new razor blade to trim it off at an angle using the rail itself as a guide.

do u have any idea how it holds up

It holds up well as long as you do a good job of gettin it glued down with dap contact adhesive. Then if it starts to peel at any lil spot I use superglue to tack it down....but the only superglue I found that works best is the Loctite brand and not gel- just the regular stuff in a resealable bottle. Hope this helps. We've done a lot of rails like this in the last year with great success.

l also found if you take a rubber mallet and a short 2 x 4 and hammer on the turf top and sides, right after you lay it down that seems to really set it.You can even watch the turf go in after you smack on it.if you get real concerned about it sticking down, lay a bead of silicone in the void between the turf and rail.

You can do it like that, not necessary. I have seen people do that when they use different colors and want to go with the flow of their paint scheme.

like tpain said, if you get it glued down well with DAP contact cement it stays in place. I use a furniture clamp with rubber pads on it to squeeze the turf to the rail to set it. Just a variation on hitting it with a hammer and block of wood.

scuff up the paint on the rails with a little sand paper clean well and use dap contact cement. clamp all your turf wait till it dries then cut the excess off. ive done a ton of skis like this and never had a problem. my x2 had turfed rails for over 2 years and not one issue or peeling and i rode it 3-4 times a week n abused it

I'm not thinking you are understanding the cut at 45 degrees thing based on your post.
I am turfing a ski tonight and tomorrow. Can take pics of the rails if it helps.

basically you just place the sharp razor knife up against the bottom edge of the rail and instead of 90 degrees you cut at a 45degree angle. Your little sketch was showing vertical cuts between the pieces of turf being at 45's. That's not what we are talking about. We are talking about the bottom edge.

when i pieced it together the seam was always cut at 90* and butted up as tight at i could get them. i only 45* the edges on the rails. otherwise the seams will never be able to sit flush and make a big gap and most likely peel up easily
