650/X-2 Handle Pole Limiting Rope

hey all,
New to the SU forums, long time Seadoo (HX) guy, made the switch this weekend. Just picked up the ski in my avi and I have a question about the limiting rope. I have it tethered to the handlebar and the bottom of the pole, but where does the other loop connect to? The latch that holds the hood on? Thanks!

If its a Blowsion style limiting role than yes. However the ideal thing to do is to mount a connecting point next to the hood latch. Attaching it to the hood latch you run the risk of the latch popping open.

Yes I thought about that when I hooked it up to that spot in particular. Mainly because of this question:
When I do latch the hood down, with the rope tethered there or not, even when I turn the knob on the latch to the "locked" position I can still grab the bottom of the latch and pull up and open it.. That's not normal, is it? I thought that if you turn the knob to "lock", it shouldn't. Be able to open, and when you turn it to "unlock", it should.. Although I hear a "click" when I turn it to "lock", I can still unlatch in either position. Is my latch broken?

It sounds like your latch is either worn out or the mechanism is broken. It shouldn't come open that easily.

Hey Mike,
It's doesn't open easily. It is tight and snug, however I can unlatch it whether the dial is set to lock or unlock. I do hear a click noise when turning the dial, I guess it's just not engaging. Is there a fix to this mechanism? Such as take it apart and reattach a spring or something? (I have no idea what's really inside, just curious if there are parts inside it that can fail) or, is it cheaper just to buy a new one?

From your profile picture I assume you have a SXR? If so, I have no idea how a Kawasaki hood latch works.

no, its a 650sx. I think I just found a quality used latch for $12 on the bay, so I'll probably just buy that.

It sounds like it was just wore out or broken. Good call to just replace it. Don't want that hood coming off in the middle of the lake or surf.

Yea, sounds good. I'm having a hard time finding an actual 89 650sx service manual online. I followed someone's link on here and it was old and some classified ad website came up.
Does anyone have a link or a PDF of the 89 650sx service/repair manual?

Thanks again for the manual and all the help.

Not sure if you or anyone else would know this, but I want to make sure I'm not missing this bailer tube before I go out this weekend. On my spx and HX, the Venturi bailer system has those 2 straws (tubes) coming out the pump/nozzle.
This is an 89 650sx and I could've sworn I saw another with One Tube inside the nozzle. Mine doesn't have any, yet there is a little hole on the right side where one COULD go.. Am I missing that "straw" or do these skis not have one?
