The round cans (vp) hold a half gallon more (5.5gal). The squares do save space, but I hate the cheesy side vent that is a snap fit. The vp cans have a top vent with a screw cap. If a vp can is full of fuel and on a flat surface - they are pretty hard to knock over. If it is unsecured in a truck bed it will probably fall over, but so will a square can. Gas cans should be tied down/secured anyway.

Man, you guys take gas cans serious. I just bought a bunch of $5 red cans from walmart or homedepot and put a large screw in it so i could remove that as a vent. Works great for a $5 price tag. the stock vent system sucks though, the screw is a must unless you want an extra workout from fueling all day
