Had my Gas Jacked from my truck at 2:06AM

This weekend me and my girlfriend wen't to my brothers house to visit. On Saturday we went out on Lake Travis, I ran through my whole tank, got back to his house locked the skis in his garage. My truck was backed up to the garage with our extra fuel, two premixed cans (cheap red ones) of gas for a total of 10gal. The next morning we were drinking coffee in the back and saw what looked like a red gas can in the brush, so I wen't and checked it out. Sure enough it was my empty gas can with 40:1 Sharpied on it, check the truck and the other can is gone too. I had two neoprene lafe jackets in the back along with ratchet straps, and a gallon of Amsoil that was all there still.

Good new is my brother has cameras around his house and my truck was parked right under one of them. After reviewing the footage we found out the passenger side of the bed was too far out of sight for a clear image at night, although in the daylight or with the porchlight on its clear as day. You could barely make the two cans out since it was so grainy and black. The two can were there up to 2:06am, then they vanish and you see the back of someones head.

My nephew had some friends over (15-16yo)while we were out, and we think one of them grabbed it to put in their car. Someone knew there was fuel and thats all they were after.

Anyway it looks like I need to get a lockbox for my trailer soon and keep a decoy can full of water with a splash of gas in the back next time.

look for the dumbass on the side of the road with fouled plugs.... if it was mixed already he's f'd

I pour premix into my 2.3 EFI Ranger all the time, no problems.
Same with the 97 Blazer I used to have.

Shifty, thanks. I was outta money and down on my luck.

I use a steel cable to secure my gas cans if they are outdoors. Scribner jugs themselves ain't cheap much less the gas inside. Unless they want to pour my gas into something really close it won't do them a lot of good.

If something is locked down they will move on to something that isn't locked down.

Good news they didn't take your gas cans.

Mark your gas as "DIESEL"...keeps most guys away...the guy needing deiesel is :):):):):)ed if he takes it

It happened in Lago Vista. It had to have been one of my Nephews friends. Or the local kit who is notorious for stealing stuff. The only thing is someone knew there were two full cans back there, as they could not be seen from the road. The only activity seen on camera before the incident 10:00 - 11:00pm were three of my nephews friends, one girl and two boys. They were all "hovering" around the truck texting and whatnot for a few minutes.

One can was still missing the other was run into the brush and placed within plane site. Maybe they couldn't tell it was that obvious since it was so dark. But who would do the filling there. Seems lilke you would drive a few blocks before transfering the fuel.

I was really hoping to catch them redhanded on the cameras too.

They can have my gas, I would die if I lost my gas cans. Hard to get the good cans anymore because of EPA regs.

Yeah I know, these were the pre CARB cans with the actual tube for pouring. They aren't VP race cans or anything but they are still the good ones that poured pretty fast.

I guess I need to buy one new VP jug now.

I bought a couple of new jugs from the Kawi shop, and they are made by Fly Racing. Same jug as before but now they say "Liquid Container" gas is not mentioned, lol. But they are the same cans, just skirting around the EPA issue. VP probably did the same thing.

I got a few LBEs its the same style can as the VP but no VP sticker. Its a knock off but the vent is in the exact same spot as the VP unlike some of the others. oh and the LBE is half the price

I would imagine you could get ticketed if the guy was a stickler. Any reason to get a square container over the round model?

I have both, but the square ones "nest" better, and aren't as prone to tipping over.
