Grinding sound from e-box?

Try a new battery, then check for bad cables, add a 2nd ground for testing the ground cable, pop e-box apart then remove the cable going to the starter and short it on the incoming battery cable to test the starter, if cranks good, could be a bad relay.

I had this happen when I was using one of those super lightweight batteries. In fact, I had instances where the ski kept trying to crank overt even with the lanyard removed.

The only mechanical part in the e-box is the starter relay (aside from the micro-motion of the coil transformer iron plates, which is not a factor). However, while it may be a bad solenoid, it could also be something not allowing the full voltage to get to the relay, like a bad cable or bad battery, like SUPERTUNE pointed out. The bad cable could also be in the e-box and the grinding sound could be electrical arcing in there (water and/or corrosion inside).

I almost forgot about it until your replay. The ski kept running after I pulled the lanyard a few starts before the problem. I pulled the plug wires soon as I could, I was running ot on the trailer so I was worried about overheating.
