Grind or not to grind?

Those ribs are for pole bracket support. End you reinforcement at the ribs, nothing is gained by removing them. Its best to add material to each side of the ribs if more strength is desired.

Yep thats what I did, I cut around them. It wasnt too bad to cut around them.
I did the bond line yesterday. Today I added a piece of 10 oz mat 4 inches wide over the bond line and then layed the 24 oz mat over that and to the inside of the ski. Up between the ribs I put two layers of 24 oz, and still have a small piece to put in infront of the big piece I layed today.
My local hardware store sells the 24 oz mat for 5.50 a yard. 10 oz mat and 24 oz mat. They also sell the biax and chopped mat together but I thought it was too thick.

its better to do all the reinforcing on one side in one shot as you get a better chemical bond with the filler in the bondline and the cloth/mat you are laying down.

on the square i reinforced we tied in pole bracket reinforcement right down around the sidewalls of the ski into the normal area everyone reinforces. like somebody said before, the pole bracket area is the weakest part of a square. 2 or 3 layers of 17 oz in there makes it solid as a rock.

as for ribs i say grind them. hardened biax is way stronger than those flimsy ribs.
