Great Lakes Rage

Great photos. Big lakes can get nasty in a very short period of time. I have witnessed Lake Michigan go from flat to very scary in a matter of 1 hour time. It can get tricky riding in those conditions!

Those are great shots. These are big swells hitting together in phase in shallow water. Probably shot from a rock wall. Those peaks he caught are from big water bouncing back against big swells . That stuff cleans up nicely at the beach and you can play in some legit surf.. The problem is screw navigating the trip to the beach from the ramps. Beach launch or no go because while its huge yet navigable, if you stall out and can't get going your riding partners may never find you.

For us, the most dangerous part is coming out of the channel between the piers when the waves get big. I always get a little freaked out until I get out and make the turn toward the shore. There is only one way to get back in, aim for the middle between the 2 piers and don't slow down until you get far enough down the channel where it flattens out!!

There is no beach launch available in that area of Lake Michigan where we ride, so it is navigate the ride out, or don't go.

For us beach launching will get you bitched at. Guys have done it a few times. It's scary riding in that slop...I'll go on my knees if I have to. I just stay as close as I can to the other guys if the ride out is pushing double overhead washing machine.

We really should start pushing the skis down on beach carts and take our chances. There is usually nobody on the beaches and certainly no sheriff boats on the water when its like that anyways.

I think now is the time of year to do it. I don't have a beach launch system yet though. Like you said, no ones on land or boat to ruin a good time. The board surfers will hate you though, no matter what you say, because you have a motor. lol
