Other gp1200 cooling lines

I have a gp1200 motor and pump being throw into a blaster im building. The lines that go to the pump are coming off the head/exhaust pipes. Is this water being spit out, sucked in, or cycled through the engine? Pretty much what Im looking for is where does the water get picked up and distributed to the engine...

ALSO, what are ways an engine can run away. I have aftermarket reeds on the boat the previous owner used, put stock ones on one time becasue boat wasn't running up to par and the engine ran away..why did it do this? too much air? Ive heard bad gas, leaking gaskets can make an engine run away. What if i took the carb filter off at that time, would that mess it up at all? Any info appreciated, Mike b

Yup or its the carb to manifold gasket

gaskets look in good shape when i just looked at them...what about not tightening everything down enough. I did have the screws hand tight, wouldn't that give similar conditions of a bad gasket?

Yea air will go right past that easily be carefull if u don't tighten stuff and it seals for a little and u run it in water it will loosen up and cause lean condition and u could blow up your motor from not doing the extra two minutes of work do it right the first time

Blaster conversions are easy but its the little things that get annoying

yea ive noticed that lol. just thought of something. IF you start the ski up w/o airfilters on the carbs will that make it run away?

Its between the carb butterfly that opens when u pull the throttle and the motor anything above doesn't matter its only going to let in wat the butterfly is open at unless its getting in from somewhere eles hint the gaskets if it didnt do it before u messed with something then wat ever u messed with is the problem

Yeah i disconnected the mani to check out the reeds, also had to remove carb to take mani off. Like i said the gaskets LOOK fine, nothing missing from them and not dented or anything. I didn't tighten fully tho since i was just using the other reeds to test motor on dolly. Ill stick with tightening and pray its nothing with gaskets.

Now if an engine is going to run away that will be at start up right? not like im riding and then it just revs out of control?

Yea only out of water the load on the motor from being in water will run "normal" but u will find out when it blows up

Yeah i don't want to find out when it blows up cuz i don't want it to blow up at all hah. So pretty much danger is mostly out of the water..

Yea it coukd idle fine and when u rev it it could take off also so just get ready to choke it or give it full throttle and press the stop botton lol

Yea if it runs away pull full throttle and hold off button ut will give motor alot of air leaning it out even more to where it shuts off

Yea, you wouldn't think it, but full throttle will shut it off.

On the cooling quesiton, the stock 1200 setup is a single half inch hose that comes from the pump and feeds the bottom of the exhaust manifold (the box). From there it travels up the cylinders and out the head. There are two outlets from the head to the head pipe. The water then goes through the pipe and out a couple fittings. One outlet is off the boot to a pisser, another outlet is a big one (like 5/8") that normally goes back to the exhaust outlet in the rear (I think they did that from the factory to make it a little more quiet).

Hope that helps.
