Other gopro mounts

For the helmet viewpoint I took the gopro head mount and cut off the headband part. Then, I bolted the hard plastic part directly into the visor stop threads on the helmet.

For ski viewpoint, I have a cold fusion mount. I have not mounted it yet, but it is a very well built piece. some guys drill them into the hull, into the gas cap, into the bond rail, or fabricate a bracket off of the pole pin.

And, get a profound dynamics tether for the camera no matter where you mount it.

I just use the regular gopro mounts on my ski and my helmet. I made my own lanyard out of some speaker wire and a few loop connectors. So far my setup has worked fine. I also run the floaty for good luck.

Seriously I don't mean to jack this post at all but if you want a knarly laugh go watch his cold fusion mount vid and his mr flippy vid. Sorry op for jack, when I get a go pro it will have a lanyard, and ski will have cold fusion

I love my suction cup mount. It WILL fall off under moderate pressure, sub, turn sub, anything like that. Always use a lanyard with the suction mount and it wont work for hard abuse. It's awesome for racing type stuff. I've put it on my gunwhale and everywhere else on my ski. Just always always always use a lanyard.

I haven't had any problem with my sticky mounts. I don't do 20' nose stabs, but I haven't had any issues with flat water subs or similar. I have them on my helmet. and they are great for that. You always mount it in the same place every time, so it doesn't matter. THey have curved and straight mounts. Curves is what you will use for almost everything.

I have a helmet that doesn't have a visor. I have a sticky mount all the way forward. I use several attachments to make the mount about 6" long, and the camera looks back downward at me. This is a great angle. You can see everything you are doing with the bars, foot and body position. It's a great way to critique. I really want to get a second go pro so I can run this camera angle synced with one on the nose so I can see when I go into the corner and how I set up for it, or for free ride same thing, when I hit the wave and how I am setting up for it. I have been trying to learn flatwater 180s and I had my suction cup mount on the nose looking back, I felt like I was turning the bars a lot but it turns out I am not turning them at all (compared to what they can turn). The other camera angle I just described would show exact body position and steering etc.

I have the handle bar mount but only use it with my quad. It bolts to the frame, the grab bar, etc. I want a roll bar mount for my nerf bars, but neither of these have uses on a ski.

If you don't have a suction mount, get one. Just lanyard up and find all your favorite places to mount on the ski.

Stormd, i'm about to order my HERO3 too. did you get white, silver or black edition ? It looks like the white is fine. White is $200, silver is $300 and black is $400.

What did you also put in on the order? I'm a big newbie yet. It comes with the batt, information cable, waterproof case, ...but then the SD Card has to be bought on top of that??

The more expensive models have more mounts and etc, they also shoot higher max resolutions, and they shoot the lower resolutions (the max of the cheaper camera) at a higher frame rate for better slow mo.

For example. Go Pro 2 SD was 720p 30fps max for $199 while GoPro 2 HD was 1080p 30fps and 720p 60fps max for $299 (also accepted backpacks). There were different editions of the 2 such as motor sports that bundled suction mounts and surf that bundled the surf board mounts.

The GoPro 3 has all the features that backpacks give regardless of the model. 1080p is standard. $199 gets you a basic mount and high res with 60fps. The better models let you shoot higher FPS and higher res as well as bundle more.

Frankly, my computer doesn't like anything over 720p, and 720p 30fps makes for some massive files. I do want a 3 but I have no need for 1080p at 60fps. I also have lots of mounts so I don't need any bundles. The real advantage of the 3 over the 2 is lighter weight and wifi sync. I want a second camera so I can mount one to tell where the boat is relative to the buoy/wave and one that can clearly see my body positioning for critique. Any of the models can do this.

Unless you plan to have a great computer and time to edit HD videos, the basic model will get you what you need. I just need to be able to see what I am doing wrong, and the $200 camera shows how much I suck. I don't need to spend twice the money to see myself suck in super HD slow mo.
