Other GoPro 3 Black is pissin me off lolol

My amazing girl got me this for fathers Day. It looks cool... But I think I have my settings messed up for the average Joe recordings.

I have an older macbook, which I love. And a middle of the road samsung flatscreen. My old gopro hd would download fine on my mac and I could also cable connect it to my tv and watch the footage that way as well. Will not work at all on the tv, and makes slow, twitchy crap downloaded vids on my mac.

The new 3 black with my current (way too high tech) settings aren't working. And possibly tv needs a software update, or gopro downgrade lol?

I'm plenty happy with 720p and would like to try that, but not sure if that will fix the issues.

If anybody has some good starting camera settings to at least get me able to get vids to my mac, that would be outstanding...

I looked at the gopro site and got frustrated pretty quick, as the issues I am having I didn't come across. It seems that most people posting settings have a poop ton of cash in cameras, time and computers, that will support all the new fangled tech that the new 3 black has to offer.

I just want to make 720p vids like I used to make with my old hero hd, before I broke it. Hoping to make this work, so my girl doesn't feel like she bought me a turd.

Thanks fellas for anything you can offer up in the setting dept!

make sure u update it from their website. you download some junk onto your blank mem card and then the camera does a bunch of crap (advanced technology is scary) and you should be good to go. i got the gopro app on my iphone and you can link via wifi and look at all your pics/vids and upload them straight to your phone which is pretty sweet.

Update

I emailed GoPro and they replied right away. I did all updates and changes they recommended, shy of the ridiculous system requirements. They're not totally ridiculous, but still a real pita to get and spendy in the long run.

I downloaded VLC and it did help get the video to my mac better, but still is unacceptable. Downgraded all my camera settings, so it will download better to my mac, pc, or tv.

And it still sucks wang. TV won't playback at all. And i've tried it on 6 different tv's. Some ours and some friends.

IMO the cam is probably phenomenal for someone who has a the latest stout pc, or mac. And don't forget the tv too. My samsung is a 2012 and my old hero hd worked great on the tv, mac and business pc.

I've had this thing since Fathers Day and have wasted a $hitload of good time, videos and effort on this thing.

I'm thinking of naming it Skeet, if GoPro can't get this resolved.

Here's a thought I would have used during marketing. Be honest about it's compatibility requirements up front and don't mislead the public with the hype of the newly redesigned wheel. Just a thought.

I have a the 3 as well and feel like there are waaaay more complicated than it needs to be. I'm not a "tech guy" so most of the functions are unused and just get in the way .... I find the menu clunky and combersom . Once you find the right set up that works for your Mac/PC /tv leave it alone . I record in 720 30 fps and the video is great. I have been having a lot of fun with a helmet cam recording ALL the kids on the lake wake boarding this year . We have got some great video running a double line.

I'm 100 percent positive that the lower editions white or silver are plenty for the average weekend warrior .

On the other hand if you live in your mothers basement and want to fill the dead time between Star Trek reruns the gopro 3 may be a better option. You better have one hell of a machine to process/edit 1440 resolution . The 3 is way over kill IMO .... We have enough sh$& to maintain and figure keeping our skis running...... Hit the easy button and save some cash..... Point click shoot.

I would recommend getting one that is app compatible so you can operate it from your smart phone. That is a fantastic option really helps to get your focal point correct other wise your shooting blind.

I agree. I want my old hero hd back bad.

I just got back another email and they want me to email them a 10 sec max vid sample to them.

Pretty sure the answer is going to be to upgrade my Mac a bit. I'd rather spend the cash on ski parts and beer though.

I have a GoPro black my wife got me as a wedding gift. I updated it immediately when I got it and set up the wifi. It is synced with my Iphone 5. I record in 1080p/30 and stream the videos back to my phone. They play perfect. I can change all of the setting from my phone very easily. I suggest if you have any doubts about your settings, you start using the apps. It takes like 12 button pushes to change the up/down orientation on the camera, but I can do it in about 1 second on my phone. I get a streaming preview on my phone that works great other than the about 3-5 second delay. Camera and phone work great together.

My computer on the other hand is a PC, mid grade (about $700) that is about 6-8 years old. Dual core 1.8ghz processor, 4gb ram, standard onboard video card for a media based PC. My computer lags pretty hardcore on playback. Choppy and pretty unwatchable. Windows will not play the MP4 format, and VLC runs very choppy. I can use Cineform to chop my videos into .avi files, and I can then use windows media player to work with the .avi (I can't get WMP to work with MP4). Ceneform will then put them back into MP4, phone/gopro format.

It's not gopros fault my computer is dated. That's what happens. Look up the specs to add a blue-ray player to your computer, and you will find that your computer wont run that either. 1080p is demanding. Very demanting. You get the latest piece of technology and it doesn't work great with the old piece. It doesn't matter to me however, because it plays fine with the phone.

I don't know what your deal is streaming to the TV. I haven't tried that yet, so I can't feedback on that. What kind of cable are you using? VGA? Component? DVI? HDMI?

Not trying to be a dick, because it drives me a little nuts my wife surprised me with this camera, but that's what happens when you have a obsolete computer and a $400 camera. I personnally was fine with my GoPro2 Std, but I'm not going to complain about this camera. The way it works with my phone is awesome. I just wish I had an android (have iphone because its easier to work with my wifes stuff) and then I could just save my crap to a SD card that I put into my phone.

x2^ Black isn't needed. The WiFi remote, (that's what makes it black), is a joke. But sync the iPad through apps and Viola, A Wifi (large) monitor that I can change settings, and review footage. The Hero3 1080p res is impressive, especially when you s l o w down

I'm hoping I messed up a setting or something.

But the playback issue on the tv is a huge bummer. Normally when we get back from a ride we just hook it up to the tv and watch it and see what we're doing as a training tool. If there's something worth saving, then I put it on the mac. The tv playback was nice because I could ff, rw, pause, slow, whatever with the tv remote. That was with my old hero hd though.

I have a feeling I'm going to be trading mine off or something.

When I read about its features, I was stoked. I just had no clue my comp stuff etc, wouldn't support it. I think GoPro needs to really post up on the packaging, or displays what is needed for each unit to operate properly. Still pisses me off a bit. And I feel bad for my wifey... She really tried and did good.
