Girdled head ?

Is it nessary to replace the case/cyl. gasket when installing a girdled head? Also ADA refers to a stud tool is that something i really need, if so where can i get it- local auto parts place?

As long as you don't remove the cylinder from the cases then you dont need to replace the gasket. Just be careful you dont move the cylinder when you remove the bolts and put the girdle studs in.

As far as a stud tool goes they are the most ideal thing to use, but you definitely dont need it. I just took the girdle bolt to Lowes and found 2 nuts and screwed them on to the stud together and used them to screw the girdle bolt in. Do not try to use the acorn nuts to screw the studs in. They will push through the top of the nuts and ruin them.

if i remember correctly, the instructions say to just thread the studs into the cases until they stop and do not try to force them past that point. to me, that means no need for a double-nut stud setter.

I second that. Just snug them down to make sure they are bottomed out.

alright thanks guys, what torque specs you using i have heard that the torgue on the ada settings are loose

I messed up the threads on (2) ada studs, using the double nut method - remember they are stainless and the threads are not nearly as durable as regular steel!

I go 28 on case/ girdle bolts and 22 on head bolts, but that never made much sense to me as the girdle bolts are also torquing the head?????? Its seems to works though. I am not a big fan of the ADA girdle hardware. I would prefer the Riva or another kit that uses short studs in cases.

18 for headbolts and 23 for the girdled studs...

or

If you're on 83mm or smaller bore, no worries about squish - unless your cyl is decked. No head gasket, that is correct.
Use some vaseline or bearing grease on the orings to hold them in place.

Disregard the torque recommendations ADA gives you. Torque the head bolts to 22ftlbs and the girdle nuts to 35 ftlbs.
