I saw Yamasaki pull the motor on the beach to change a starter - Not difficult once you've done it a few times.

Maybe someone can lend you a hand. From the mao you're close to several peeps. If you list your exact location .......

why dont you tell us what type of ski this is on, if it a yamaha, then you will need to remove the headpipe portion of the exhaust, or drop the bed plate off to get it out.

ha ha did you read what you quoted? my friends square nose:wink:

ok if i do pull the whole motor then i just flip it and undo the bolds attaching it to the bedplate right? so 8 bolts total and all the fuel lines and what not. what are the torque specs for the 8 bolts and whats the best type of torque wrench to use for the job?

Dooohhh, You Got Me!!!!!!!!!!!!! missed that.........
Remove the Gas Tank, Battery and Tray.......... Undo the 4 bolts that hold the motor down......... slide forward (Disconnect exhaust hose) rotate engine to the right, loosen up the bed plate, remove starter, Reverse......... hmmmmmmmmmm 25-30 ft lbs. Torque....... or just remove the headpipe portion (Elbow section) be sure to pull the rubber back and get the inner hose clamps.......... I would do the motor pull method...........

Hope you dont spin the mounts, break any electrical connectors, tear any fuel or cooling lines. Yes the motor only takes 20 minutes to pull but it takes me that long to find my tools. Just pull the chamber(three bolts) remove 8 manifold bolts and your done. To pull the motor there are 4 bolts for the mounts,2electrical connections, throttle cable, choke cable, 2 fuel lines cooling line, 2 bolts to remove electrical box, diconnect the battery and 4 bolts for the bed plate under the starter. Then all that has to get hooked back up and the motor alligned to reinstall and hope you dont break anything.Manifold gaskets are cheap. Seams like alot of headache to save $4

you are probably right. The reason to pull the motor at the beach like saki did is cause you don't have extra manifold gaskets on the beach. The sluts tend to travel with back up ski's they can scavange for starters and such.

I pulled manifold and head pipe. like kahuna said make sure you pull back the rubber and get the inner clamp on the chamber. Also make sure its attached correctly when reinstalling or you will overheat. And thats just the head pipe circled. I would only pull the motor if I had to get back on the water then and didnt have a gasket. My ski has been apart alot so I dont worry about frozen mounts and stuff but its definetly a concern on an older ski that hasnt been pulled apart
