getting stock decals off?

Castrol Super Purple Cleaner Stuff works great for getting all the old adhesive off.

mix 50/50 with water, spray on - softens up the adhesive in just a few minutes.

probably softens up paint, gel coat and SMC as well - but at least your old adhesive will be gone.

that drill mounted rubber wheel is the poop !!!

takes everything off including the glue, even buffs out the not o pretty spots on the hull.

all you need to do after is hose it down and wipe it clean.best thing i ever used.

took all the stock sticker off a 93sn in about 1 1/2 hr.

if your planning on removing all the stock stickers i would pick up 2 wheels as they do wear out quickly.

I used an iron and a razor blade to get the stickers off and then goof off for the sticky stuff. The goof off works great if you stick a paper towel to the sticky residue and then poor some goof off onto the paper towel and let it sit for a bit. Then scrape the crud away with the razor blade.

I just did my ski and the best thing I found to use is Aircraft Adhesive remover. They sell it at O'Reilly Auto Parts. Spray it on, let it sit for a few seconds and use a plastic scraper to scrape it off. It works.

decal removal wheel (sold at most auto paint shops) is hands down the best way. your fingers and head wont hurt after your done!
if you ask for it at anywhere but the auto paint store people will think your making it up. idiots.

I second this! I just did my '01 and it took about 2 hours & a 6 pack.

I've always used a heat gun and a plastic blade or even a screwdriver. Gets the OEM decals off super easy and all you're left with is the gorilla snot which comes off easy with Lacquer Thinner and paper towels.

Decal removal Wheel sounds cool though...have to try that next time.

I use a heat gun, plastic razor blade, gotta get the temp just right, so the decal doesn't fall apart, trying to get it to peel in the largest piece as possible, and use rapid remover(can be had at your local sign supply shop) to remove the excess glue.

you can find them at most auto parts store but in my experience they have it on the shelf and only 1 guy in the whole store actually knows what it is..

its actually called a "pin stripe remover" or variation thereof. looks like a big round eraser usualy beige in colour, as threads but fits in the drill

Heat gun and a steady hand with a razor blade to get the decals started

then once the decal itself is off, you need a can of this:

and one of these after you spray it and let it sit for a few seconds... it turns it into jelly, and a few wipes with a paper towel and it is done for.

I detail boats and I am constantly removing old vinyl and old screwed up graphics... You will never catch me spending 30 bucks on an eraser wheel that has the potential to screw up a customer's boat.

You can use an eraser wheel, but there is always a chance you are going to burn the finish or take off paint.

The wheels are also called "Eraser Wheels" and you can find them at a auto body supply shop. Bought one for 11 bucks and they work awesome. They do eventually erase themselves like a pencil eraser does.
