Anyone familiar with designing gas struts (like the ones that hold up the hood on a car)? I want to use them and would appreciate some help selecting a size, weight and mounting location. I could use some help from someone confident in helping me select the right stuff via e-mail. I sought help from one of the engineers on the board by pm but I was kind of volunteering him for a project he wasn't interested in or familiar with so I wasn't expecting much results. Need someone interested in helping that knows a little about them or similar enough to help. Let me know if you are interested and know what you're doing. I could try to work it out but can't waste time or money on mistakes if I want my X2 in Daytona. I haven't found anyone around here that stocks them, all special order, so trial and error isn't an option unless I can find someone who stocks marine struts.

Thanks.

MasterCarr is you best place for them. I use several on almost every job I design but I don't design them. Figure out what you need as far as travel and lifting force and you should be good to go. Don't over think a readily available commercial item.
There are also lots of different mounts and the ends are threaded on the shock so the mount point is easily changed or altered.

You can also download 3d models and work out the basics in almost any cad format that will translate step files
That's the best way to find your pivot points and mounting.
