FX1 value

So I've seen recent discussion about this from @spinyard @E350 @holygoat but didn't want to completely derail @waxhead 's FX1 144 conversion thread so I figured I'd start a new one.

I've been leisurely looking, not trying too hard, for an FX1 for about a year now. I have stumbled upon 3 so far. One was on this forum for $3k with a trailer which seemed like a screaming deal. Unfortunately it was halfway across the country from me and I couldn't make arrangements to get it in time before it sold.

The next one was $5k and didn't look terrible, but definitely looked it's age. And the other was $5,500 and looked to be in pretty good stock condition.

Does anyone have any idea what these actually end up selling for on average? I'm just trying to get an idea of how much I should be expecting to spend and if I need to raise my expectation$.

Thanks!

And also, I do understand the concept of it's worth what someone will pay for it. Just wondering if anyone knows an average range of what someone will pay for it

The fx1 is awesome. Hard to ride like you have put a cr500 engine into a cr125 frame and hang the fook on. Your mates will hate it and walk around it with a huge radius but man when you get these things dialed on the riding they are a thing of beauty. If you turn hard right then a snap left urn on bouys you can actually feel the hull move. MInd i did have a lamey in my one that did that. the next one i am building it has a 6mm stroker in it on a lamey cylinder so i should feel that as well

Dudes that ride flatwater freestyle = "FX-1's are the worst"
Dudes that ride surf = "FX-1's suck"
Dudes that like to have fun = "FX-1's are my favorite"

Yeah, its pretty spot on here with the values. $3500-$4000 would be all i'd pay for a pristine one all stock. Even still, people ask way too much for them. I guess just because they are "rare"

I still think that one of these days I'm gonna ditch all my fancy gear and pick up a clean FX-1... I would be perfectly happy riding that forever. Im done chasing the dragon.

@BennyB funny you mention that about the dude in Chicago with the one for $3k, Im sure I messaged him first because it was a few minutes after he posted it and he replied with a very short reply. I told him I could be there day after tomorrow and then he just flat out ignored me. Then marked it as sold a few days later. People really suck sometimes...

I absolutely love mine... it's got all the bolt'ons bpipeu, jdplate, grate & prop. The pump is a big bummer for that reason and that reason alone (maybe some cool factor) I prefer a 550 w/750 pump swap & a engine swap as a recommendation to anyone who just wants the all rounder lil ski. Substantially cheaper than a nice FX1 as well.

They're a tad different, Yamaha definitely feels more robust, but you'd have tough time convincing me a properly built JS with good setup, good powerplant and thrust isn't a better ski through and through than a lightly modded fx1.

This could change if I ever get a 144 in here, but I beat my 550s pretty hard, not sure I could ever bring myself to stand on an fx1 hood.

I'm greedy with pricing I'd have a tough time wanting to sell it under 5k given that okay condition bpipe roundnoses seem to pull that in season, and I have zero desire for a basic RN, I love these narrow hulls

@brapperdoodle Yeah I'm in the "like to have fun" category so I'll keep looking for one. And yeah I messaged the guy with the one for 3k shortly after he listed it and said I could figure out getting it within a week or so and never got a response. When I went to message again saying I could come get it, it was sold.

@mrfist9 A 550/750 conversion does sound pretty fun. I have a spare JS hull laying around just need to find the time to make that project happen.

And so what I'm hearing on pricing for these is anywhere from $3k-$5k..... Which brings us to "it's worth whatever someone will pay for it." ;)

The FX1 is a great , fun ski if you leave it stock , if you start modding it the pumps limitations show up quickly and you need a 144 pump in it to do any serious mods to one IMHO or at minimum a Kawi pump conversion.

Yeah I figure when I get one I'll ride it stock for a while first and get comfortable on it. Then it seems Wax's 144 drop in pump conversion would be on the market and would be a good direction to go
