FX-1 Fx1 Reinforcement

I've got my fx1 in a million pieces right now and I want to give my compartment a nice coat of color. But my question is do I need to reinforce while im in there? I don't ride surf (none around my neck of the woods) and I don't get upside down, yet. All I ride is lakes and maybe a river sometimes. I guess my question is whats the fx1 hulls weak spots? I know the sides are flimsy. I thought about reinforcing the whole compartment but that may be overkill. I know this is beaten in the ground, but I havent read a lot of fx1 related info on this. If you have reinforced your fx1 lets hear about it.

No, don't panic about weakness for average riding. The hull is made from hand laid fiberglass...
The most I've ever seen is gel coat stress cracks...run it.

Good deal, less work for me! I do have gel coat chips in my motor compartment. I guess i'll reinforce in the future if I ever start getting cracks. So for the most part most fx1 riders don't bother with reinforcement?

I reinforced mine, probably don't really need it but I did it just to be safe. Layer of 17oz biaxial and carbon down the sides and some to the pole mount.

I thought the hood lip was a little flimsy. When I got the ski there were stress cracks in the clearcoat near the pole bracket and rear corner near the hood lip.

Hopefully I'll be learning to roll and flip on this ski, and I like not having to worry about it when it lands on its side or upside down. Since I know it is going to take a while for me to learn.

if your rolling it, reinforce the engine compartment lip, thats were mine always split I even went as far as to ad a support brace across the middle of the engine compartment as if you land it on its side it flexes enough to allow water in

I also had one split at the bond line , the glue just seporated so I always put a layer along the bond line, but mine get abused in the Ca surf

Ive about decided to reinforce. Why not since im going to coat the engine compartment. I can't roll, i can't do flip flops, but maybe someday. Thanks for the info guys. Im going to run the glass on the sides (17oz biax) and glass the rest of the hull in with a lighter weight glass, maybe 7.5oz. Im also going to use the grey dye from uscomposites. Thanks for the tip demon. I didnt know whether to glass that part in or just go around it.
