It looks like the burnt area is around the voltage regulator, u could try that first theyre pretty cheap Jetmaniac has ebox parts

Thanks for the advice. I got a regulator ordered today and going to try that. The plastic and spring pieces in the switch were shotty earlier in the season so we rigged it up for it to work for July 4th weekend. In any event, I wanted to make sure the switch wasn't bad before I start replacing stuff. I hooked the battery up (the right way this time) and I noticed the regulator was letting out said magic smoke...is that a good sign in that it might be only thing wrong, or should I just assume everything is toast? Just curious if this is better or worse sign as to what is wrong

I would start with the new regulator and go from there. Why spend money if you don't have too unless you absolutely just have to be back on the water by the weekend.

I hooked up the new regulator tonight and nothing happened when I hit the switch. I think my switch might be bad so I'm going to order one of those by shay else should I go for next? The starter relay? That looked pretty burnt out? Any advice

I got the new switch yesterday hooked it up and it fired right up. Put everything back together and she's ready to roll.

All in all I replaced the voltage regulator ($20) and the start/stop switch ($90). Maintenance, figuring out the problem and waiting for parts in the mail was the majority of the time it took to get it running.

Once I heard it turn over it was the sweetest sound I've heard in a long time!
