Not if you do it the way i did it. Use the entire pump cavity. it makes it so much easier. no extra wear rings or spacers and you dont have to mess with the pump mounting. just cut everything as evenly as you can. make sure it all fits well with a little bit of wiggle room to align it.
Its was so simple, i felt like i was doing something wrong and it would fail on the first ride. but its didnt and its still going strong.
plus, the set back pump shoe is the best way to go. if you keep the pump shoe in the stock location, the ski gets really squirrely and unstable because the pump tunnel or center of suction, is too close to the center of gravity. it needs to be further back.
You can do this but you miss another benefit of the setback pump : more water available in front off the prop. itsn't the easy way i know
