FX-1 FX-1 build

So I picked up an fx-1 hull that is gonna be painted an get a make over and I got 2 questions:

1. Does anyone have progress picks of putting in a 144 and any advice for doing so?

2. What does everyone do with the ugly stock fire extinguisher holder? I'm going to put an internal mount one in from a kawi 650

I got a bunch of :):):):) done but it has gone slow because of college.

Ran dual cooling lines and cut the tray out for the tom21 wide tray. Also did Yeh 140 kawi swap

I got the wetjet pipe all setup and fitted into this tiny ass engine bay.

Now is the problem. I cut the bulkhead too much and I'm going to glass it up but is it fine to lower the exhaust tube below the stock hole? As in will everything line up right with the exhaust outlet? I would like to put the exhaust before the foam so it is easy to lay up the glass to fix the bulkhead

Shouldn't hurt to lower the exhaust tube. My f1pro is lowered like that. Hose may sit on your battery a little more but not a big problem. Cool build!

dig the wide tray! i did that to my 550 but didnt have a kit haha.. the only issue i could see with lowering the exhaust tube would be that water could back feed into your exhaust and fill up the waterbox with water.. the purpose of the pipe angled up that way is too keep the water out.. otherwise it may not start while in the water

If you got skills you can put an S bend on your pipe or have one made, I believe limitedslip did one on his fx I can't remember off hand.

If you have a waterbox, you won't have an issue with water backing up into the engine. The real reason the pipe is angled is to bring the connections above the water line. This way if a hose splits or a clamp comes loose, the ski won't sink. I've lowered mine and I double clamp the ends just for a little added assurance.

Great that's what I wanted to hear. I understand why it is angled I just wanted some reassurance I plan on placing the pipe lower just because I want to glass the bulkhead up correctly and I want to have the foam already poured so I have a nice backdrop for my glass. I plan on having this ready for paint by the end of the weekend. I will post some more pics then.

Paint will be PPG gloss black epoxy paint and primer. Red turf, grips, and tons of red stickers from various companies and suppliers. I'm excited to have a running ski. I haven't rode in 1.5 years

Btw I used PEX tubing for my stock siphon tube. That :):):):) is the way to go you can put the barbed ends on there plus it cheap. Otherwise I used aluminum brake lines to run the cooling lines.

Maybe I'll get it all the way around NEXT time....

My wife's FX1 has the exhaust ran very low through the firewall, it is not an issue, but the ski leans to that side because of the lack of flotation (probably some heavy foam too)... no issues whatsoever.

So a little update. I got the foam poured and the tray glasses in. I just need to glass around the front of the tray and the bulkhead and install the pump inserts. How would you guys install them? Im going to use Kawasaki ones because they are nicer than the Yamaha ones. I was thinking that I am going to drill out a hole from the bottom of the ski for the bolts to go through and then counter bore that hole on the tray side of the hull to oft the insert in and then mix up some really thick resin and put it around the insert to lock it in.

Nice !!!! Footholds????

Nah. I had a set of tom21 footholds that are compatible with 25 mm pad and the buckets were just too big. They wouldn't fit with the wide tray. I'm going to rock a front foothold with a rear strap. Plus I decided I'm not a big foothold fan because of the duck stance. It's just uncomfortable for me. The only footholds I would consider are the BOB type of footholds. And those just weren't in the budget this year.
