I would bet $1,000.00 that if there was actually the slightest bit of marketing done to sell these things, people may actually buy them...

We're use to it, but just think about how ludicrous it is that the most asked question we get is "Do they still make those"??... I mean any freaking moron can put 2+2 togther and deduct that maybe some marketing to colleg kids, or teenagers might be a half way decent idea... I know this sounds stupid, but it's almost like the companies sabatage themselves... How do expect to sell a product line, when no one knows they exist... It's truely amazing that we are sitting here in the year 2007 and most people after 30 years of production still don't know they exist... It's absolutely amazing and mind boggling!!!

WHy do they even make standups??? They have to be losing tons of money on them... What is the reasoning???

This sport is beyond the realm of comprehension... We got the most ridiculous sancioning body ever divised (IJSBA), w/ complete and utter morons running it (Fraizer) no marketing, no factory support. This is almost not even a sport. You will see underwater basket weaving on ESPN before Jet Skis again...

I'd be willing to take that bet.

They will not sell. People are lazy, and very few are into sports enough to invest the effort into learning one.

I have several friends. Only one friend wakeboards, rides quads, dirtbikes and the stand ups with me. All of my other friends give up on the wakeboard, some before they even learn to get up. Few will ride a quad, and most of those want to stick to the mud, very few will race us. I can't get anyone on a dirt bike. I offer my new stand up to anyone who will try. The longest attempt to learn outside of my one friend was 10 mins. He said he'd try again, but he's the only one who'd even ask for a second attempt, and even then, he said later, he didn't want to try again that day.

I have met dozens of people, offered to take them for free for the 1st few times to see if they like our sports. They say no. Not only would they not buy a quad or a ski, but they don't even want to go for free, unless they can just get the tires spinning in the mud. NONE of them will help tune the bike after they destroy the brakes in the mud.

They do not advertise the ski because there is no market. People don't want a recreation that is "work". They want to cruise on a sit down and eat their big macs. I would love a new SX-R. I drool over it every time I am at the dealer and check out every part on it I can, but I can't afford it. I'm their target audiance, and for $6000, no sale. To market something, they have to have enough sales to make up for the marketing costs. There's not enough buyers.

Don't hate the people who build the skis of your sport. They can only do as much as consumers allow. They market what sells. Stand up skis are the kind of product that people who want one, will hunt one. It takes a special kind of someone to ride a stand up and the people like us do not need marketing. If we know it exists, we'll find the information on our own.

^^^ Time to find some new friends?!

When my friends get together its like an episode of Jack@ss and dont stop till some one is hurt(usually me).

I agree with marketing. Yamaha should step up especially if they are introducing a new SJ this year. One 30 sec commercial with a guy railing some buoys and then some surf action would do wonders.

x2.

I have NEVER gone riding and pulled up to shore, the ramp, the dock or the beach, without someone from friends to complete strangers begging me for a chance to ride my ski.

Last weekend I am riding by my town beach. I see a group of 3 teenagers sitting on the rocks, two guys and a gal. One of the guys starts waving me over. I thought for sure it was my son and his friends. So I tool on over, and they are actually 2 guys and a girl in their early 20s. They were just going nuts over the stuff they saw me doing. (and trust me it was nothing major...a few subs, a couple of barely credible stabs, and some decent air behind a wakeboard boat)

One of the guys holds up a Bud and says "I'll give you a beer if you let me ride it, I used to ride my Uncle's 650"

I politely had to turn him down since I don't drink when I ride, I don't drink Bud ever, and even if it was a real beer I wouldn't have let him on my ski.

Then the little tart in the bikini, who obviously had more of a taste for Bud than I do, pipes up "I'll give you a kiss if you let me ride it" :cheer:

I did consider the offer, but based on how much I'd have to pay in alimony and child support. I declined her offer as well.

So yeah, if people were even made slightly aware that these things were still produced and sold, there would be a ton of them out there.

Not all Americans are fat and lazy. There are plenty of people skiing, snowboarding, skate boarding, surfing, wind surfing, kite boarding, wake boarding, MXing, etc. Many of these folks would be easy converts to stand up skis.

I agree w/ the others... You need to either move or find new friends...
Everyone I know rides something... Bikes, Skates, BMX, Quads, Surfing, Kite Boarding... You name it...

There is a market and it could be tapped w/ if the right people are targeted..

I don't mind catching up with other people. i saw a few stand ups at lake seminole on sunday. One of those tards was pulling a wakeboarder with his stand up!

Oh wait... that tard was me. :Banane01:

<3 wakeboarding.

I can catch up with you guys tho if you're out when I am. I am usually at lake seminole, sometime I go to the fort. I'm out of comission atm. I think my bedplate rusted through and I need to get a new one. I rode the other day but I think the engine has broken free. I'm afraid I make break the drive shaft or something.

I don't want to go to the fort without another rider. I'm afraid that if I fall off w/o anyone there, I'll have big problems with the current. There's a few places I can't stand and hold the jet ski the currents are so bad there. I only have one other friend with a ski and his is broke, and they don't have $70 for a new throttle cable, so I'm stuck in the pond until then it seems.

I have heard the "old school" thing many times. Actually i have heard most of those in the poll. Most of my friends wont touch my ski's. They might try for 30 seconds and if they cant just get up and ride off then they give up. The others that wont try are just intimidated by it. I use to have a 900zxi and had a buddy that would go along when I went to the lake. When I got a standup I called him up and asked him if he wanted to go since he wasnt doing anything. "Oh cool...yeah I will come....what do you have now!!" Told him I had a standup and his response was, "Oh.....well I think I might just sit around the house then." This last weekend I invited my friend and he said that he would go if I brought the sit down (blaster 1). He tried for 30 seconds to get on without tipping it and just gave up.....he is not fat either. People want instant gratification and dont appreciate the challenge of learning something new. I have no idea how the playstation ever took off with all of those buttons. I bet what people really want is an atari 2600 with the joystick and 1 button.

Calee and I have some really good friends and I talked there heads off all winter about coming to ride with us. then they did and he did not like it. its to hard for most people and they don't want to put forth the effort. it seems really weird to me. its so much fun and great exercise. people are just lazy and don't like that they are not good at something.

Aqua is that the guy that like to ride skis on the dock?

How fast does that thing go!! I guess the only fun on a lake is going in a straight line as fast as possible:banghead:

It's usually the kids and the ladies that like to see what you can do on the water. Subs by far seem to be their favorite, of course I can't do a flat water back flip :splatt:

The guys in their bass boats won't even look at you, they know they have the coolest boat ever built:rolleyes:. But, it must kill them when their girlfriend/wife is watching and pointing as they drive past.

I would like bass boats more if they kicked up a good wake:smile:
