The thing I get asked the most is if it is hard to ride.
I would bet $1,000.00 that if there was actually the slightest bit of marketing done to sell these things, people may actually buy them...
We're use to it, but just think about how ludicrous it is that the most asked question we get is "Do they still make those"??... I mean any freaking moron can put 2+2 togther and deduct that maybe some marketing to colleg kids, or teenagers might be a half way decent idea... I know this sounds stupid, but it's almost like the companies sabatage themselves... How do expect to sell a product line, when no one knows they exist... It's truely amazing that we are sitting here in the year 2007 and most people after 30 years of production still don't know they exist... It's absolutely amazing and mind boggling!!!
WHy do they even make standups??? They have to be losing tons of money on them... What is the reasoning???
This sport is beyond the realm of comprehension... We got the most ridiculous sancioning body ever divised (IJSBA), w/ complete and utter morons running it (Fraizer) no marketing, no factory support. This is almost not even a sport. You will see underwater basket weaving on ESPN before Jet Skis again...
^^^ Time to find some new friends?!
When my friends get together its like an episode of Jack@ss and dont stop till some one is hurt(usually me).
I agree with marketing. Yamaha should step up especially if they are introducing a new SJ this year. One 30 sec commercial with a guy railing some buoys and then some surf action would do wonders.
I'd be willing to take that bet.
They will not sell. People are lazy, and very few are into sports enough to invest the effort into learning one.
I have several friends. Only one friend wakeboards, rides quads, dirtbikes and the stand ups with me. All of my other friends give up on the wakeboard, some before they even learn to get up. Few will ride a quad, and most of those want to stick to the mud, very few will race us. I can't get anyone on a dirt bike. I offer my new stand up to anyone who will try. The longest attempt to learn outside of my one friend was 10 mins. He said he'd try again, but he's the only one who'd even ask for a second attempt, and even then, he said later, he didn't want to try again that day.
I have met dozens of people, offered to take them for free for the 1st few times to see if they like our sports. They say no. Not only would they not buy a quad or a ski, but they don't even want to go for free, unless they can just get the tires spinning in the mud. NONE of them will help tune the bike after they destroy the brakes in the mud.
They do not advertise the ski because there is no market. People don't want a recreation that is "work". They want to cruise on a sit down and eat their big macs. I would love a new SX-R. I drool over it every time I am at the dealer and check out every part on it I can, but I can't afford it. I'm their target audiance, and for $6000, no sale. To market something, they have to have enough sales to make up for the marketing costs. There's not enough buyers.
Don't hate the people who build the skis of your sport. They can only do as much as consumers allow. They market what sells. Stand up skis are the kind of product that people who want one, will hunt one. It takes a special kind of someone to ride a stand up and the people like us do not need marketing. If we know it exists, we'll find the information on our own.
I agree w/ the others... You need to either move or find new friends....
Is that a ski doo? I didn't think they made them anymore.
we don't ride lakes.I don't mind catching up with other people. i saw a few stand ups at lake seminole on sunday. One of those tards was pulling a wakeboarder with his stand up!
Oh wait... that tard was me. :Banane01:
<3 wakeboarding.
I can catch up with you guys tho if you're out when I am. I am usually at lake seminole, sometime I go to the fort. I'm out of comission atm. I think my bedplate rusted through and I need to get a new one. I rode the other day but I think the engine has broken free. I'm afraid I make break the drive shaft or something.
I don't want to go to the fort without another rider. I'm afraid that if I fall off w/o anyone there, I'll have big problems with the current. There's a few places I can't stand and hold the jet ski the currents are so bad there. I only have one other friend with a ski and his is broke, and they don't have $70 for a new throttle cable, so I'm stuck in the pond until then it seems.
