Ive never heard anyone else say that, but thats been more or less my thinking and goal for the last few months.... Interesting to hear a tuner recommend it too....

I'm really surprised though that ed recommends such a small n/s.... When I talk to other builders they dont... Art at jetworks says to stick with a 2.0, and Tim Judge even tells me to run a 2.3....

As for the 4 metering holes, its funny you bring that up because recently talking to Art about getting some blackjacks done, he told me he never really liked the idea of the 4th transition circuit, but we didn't go into any further detail than that, other than him saying something as to the point of "trying to fix a problem with another problem...." or something to that sort....

Depending on your setup Ed may solder over the 4th hole. He typically sets the carbs up based on your setup. These are typically not off the shelf carbs.

Im still looking for what is wrong with a standard sbn 44 and 46. What exactly are we getting from the carb modifiers besides something to talk about?

Ive got decent results outa reg mikuni carbs,so nothing is wrong with them but built carbs like novi and fs Ive used, just hit harder, they are flow tested to have 3 times or more the sig and flow through the replaced booster,so like wax said they pull harder on the jets. Its hard for a freestyle rider to measure performance in the low end,you just feel it pull harder, but with a tach you can see them pulling more rpm up top than the same size stock mikuni on the same motor in back to back tests.

bk ive never seen one with the 4th hole soldered over, where did you hear this?

Think Tricky1's first set was soldered. He talked to Ed, Ed asked who he got them from and what pipe he planned to use. Ed responded by saying drill out the 4th hole that I soldered. You will need it for that dry pipe you are running (Type 9).

If you need to resort to blocking or opening previously blocked off transition holes just because you switched pipes this can only mean the carbs are touchy. When you go to races or events do you normally have to take your mikuni tuning parts arsenal ?

I have not found fs carbs to be touchy as far as needing changes for weather or water temp, just this 1/3 throttle issue, this seems to be resolved for now. After another year of using them Ill prolly be much more familiar with them and have a better chance to see if this will ever happen

Ok you seem to ask a lot of questions and post a lot of information you find out. How about telling us what really made the difference in tuning this 1/3 throttle muddy spot you call. What is just a jetting issue or did you change other factors that contributed to making dialing in the carbs easier? And if you have it all figured out let us know so we can all benefit from the information that you figured out. Otherwise we will all have to resort to the jetting specs that Brazina gives out and you said that did not work good with you.
I don't use Full Specs so it does not benefit me, but it might benefit others who do.

The 1/4 to 1/3 muddy problem didn’t go away. Has anyone been able to “fix” it yet?? Let’s hear from all the tuners out there.
