On my SJ i seem to be getting a fair amount of fuel mist coming out of my tank. After an hour or so of riding I will pull the hood, and there will be an oily residue in the same area as the vent. Does this mean my vent is bad? What are the symptoms of a bad check valve?

Well the vent is bad. I can blow through it easily both ways. Will this cause running issues, or will it just squirt a little gas out? I'm not planning on leaving it this way, but I may not be able to locate anything by Sunday. Thanks

I can't think of any reason it would cause running issues. It will probably allow more fumes in the engine compt. though and that probably isn't the best thing.

Try motorcycle/motocross shops for a cheap tank vent, most carry them on a pegboard display and should be under $10. I always have some on hand.
Yes, if the tank vent is bad the ski will run badly, as the fumes will make it run way too rich.

Thanks Chuck! I got a 1/8 vacuum check valve from napa yesterday. It is 1/8 on the one side and smaller on the other side. I think it should work ok for at least one weekend. I will be ordering the correct one from somewhere next week. I don't know who carries them.

yea, i was going to say get the little gas cap vent some ppl use on mx bikes and quads...you should be able to find them at any dealer! i would definitely do it asap so that the fumes don't fill up inside - any little spark:thumbsdown:
