fuel shooting out cyclinders

so my ski has been sitting for about three week due to a dead battery. so i get a new battery and go to crank it and it turns over and then seems hydro locked. pull pugs and crank again.... fuel shoots out everywhere like i cranked for awhile and maybe a half cup total. Almost positive its gas. put plugs back in crank with throttle wide open finally starts and seems fine. So what would cause this? tank built up to much pressure forcing fuel to dump into engine threw carbs?

Sounds like you hit the nail on the head, especially if it was hot out. Maybe you have a leaking needle/seat or your popoff is low?

i have a 2.0 needle seat. and yea last time i rode it when i filled it the temp was like 70 and it was in the 90s this week. wasnt sure if anyone has ever seen that before... kinda strange.

Do you know what your actual popoff is? I had a leaking needle issue and found that the o-rings on my seat were worn out and leaking.

na i dont seats are new just put on wet pipe and rebuilt carbs.... im normally pretty good at that sorta stuff

Make sure your vent is working right and its facing the right direction. Otherwise temperature changes cause expansion and increase of pressure in the tank; enough to push the needle right off it's seat. Especially true if you are running a low pop for aftermarket flame arrestors.

Factory needle/seat is 1.5, if you are running a 2.0 seat then pop off will be much lower with any spring.

I had this problem once. My long exhaust hose was up tight against the carbs and blocked the vent hole for the diaphragm in the jet side of the carb to go back to its "neutral" position.

Once you shut the ski off and let it sit, the diaphragm would hold the needle open and fill the engine with gas from tank pressure.

I repositioned the long exhaust hose and the problem went away.

This was on a Superjet with an old Xmetal waterbox that put the long hose in a weird spot.

Did you have your ski on its side for any reason? I beleive If it was layed up on left side for an extended period of time fuel from carbs could drain into engine

pressure built up in tank and needle valve dumped fuel.turn selector to off next time.
