does it matter where you mount your side exaust, as long as its below the bond line?

i was thinking in my next life or on my next ski putting a side exhaust below the bond line but almost all the way to the back of the engine compartment. that way maybe you wont eat as much exhaust. is that a good idea or another one of my stupid ones?

i searched front exhaust last night and found a post by Paul.

he said that having the exhaust set up like that actually chokes the engine a little, something to do with the water rushing past...

i tried to find the link but i don't really have the time right now.

but some one did a build up i forgot the name but it was a gray ski and the guy was from jersey, he had a rear exhaust above the bond line which was pretty cool.

Been riding surf for 17 years with a rear exhaust and have yet to have my ski stall on a landing from water going up the exhaust outlet. I also have been doing tail stands/ spins for the same period of time and never had a problem with rear exhaust.........what are you guys trying to fix with going to a front exhaust??

I'm confused..........it seems like when the factory made front exhaust everyone converted to rear exhaust, now that the factory uses a rear exhaust people are converting to front......is it just a "trick mod" factor???

You dont bog when doing monkey jumps or 5050s...or any other various tail stand combos. When your int he middle of your run and you cavitate and fall...it just sucks

DON'T DO IT!!
You'll suck the exhaust into the pump when doing turns. It either needs to be all the way up front or at least behind the pump inlet.

looks like a pretty sweet set up but like it reads in the post prob not legal if thats an issue for you where you ride.

and i don't think that would mess with your pump where it is.

Seems to me the ONLY benefit of front exhaust is easier tail stands. I've got the stock rear exhaust and can do stands, but found them to be much easier on my friend's ski with front exhaust. Like you, I've never had a problem landing in surf or off boat wakes, etc due to the rear exhaust. Personally, this would be the one mod that I would be least likely to do - I think the extra noise is a nuisance and nowhere near worth the modest gains in the ability to do a tailstand.

But i seem to be in the minority on that one...

ID on the rod holder and on a blowsion one is an 1 and 7/8 of an inch. The tubing is not that thick......maybe an 1/8 of an inch on the blowsion one and less than that on the rod holder.

Here's a few pics of the one I had made. It's all thin wall aluminum, the tube on mine is 2". Once it was welded together, I did a little grinding on the outside "face", layed up some jb-weld and sanded it smooth.

What did you use for the tubing? (for the exhaust hose)
I used 2" fuel filler hose that I picked up at the auto parts store.

And where did you get parts to weld together?

I mocked up a "paper" version that I made out of poster board and took it to a friend of mine who is a welder and he had all the aluminum, then he welded the outlet and made the tee for the waterbox for me. Any welding shop that works with aluminum would probably have some laying around in their scrap pile.

Thanks
I just came up a tee but was trying to get out of the rest on a budget
May do the rod holder that i have been seeing

Any tips are appreciated !!!!!!!!!!

Anyone got photos of how to do this? Like where does the tee connect to? (i'm clueless on this project)

Tee goes to the outlet of your waterbox.
The goal is to have two exhaust outlets. Necessarily, they need to be located downstream from the waterbox.

Will i need to rejet or anything? The waterbox and exhaust cause the "backpressure", right?
