Freestyle Ported WOT - Why Not??

Many freestyle engine builders say not to pin the throttle for more than a few seconds. I haven't herd exactly why? I sure it's dependent on all the variables that go into a freestyle ported motor, but just asking in general. Compression? Timing Curve? Heat? RPM? Physics? Obama Care? Fuel Mixtures? what?

Its not the porting, its the compression, timing, and fuel. Freestyle porting is just to maximize low rpm response, it does not make the most power. The reason why they say no WOT is because the engine is set up with too much compression and timing. They hit hard that way, but also burn up fast.

That's good to hear. I was hesitant about going all out on a full freestyle ported motor because I have heard the same thing. I like to cruise the Intra Coastal Waterway at speed, depending on chop. I should be good as I'm going to be running higher compression and an enhancer, but not super high compression and advanced timing.

We can setup our 1000's to run WFO with no problems, we run less timing programmed in the MSD-TL with bigger main jets. You could lower compression ratio also to gain a little more RPM's, but we don't bother with that, because the engine was setup at the time of build with a compression ratio setup for the fuel being used.

I really think this new epic/flame ignition from Chris at ATP is going to apply to this fantastic.
Program 2 timing curves, one curve set for hauling the mail (WFO) to get where you want to go for flatwater practice or surf power riding and then switch over to curve set 2 for your hard hitting freestyle curve set! Now you have like two different ski setups without having 2 ski's...

I run my engine WOT all day long.

Of course, it's a tiny race setup with a weeney 140mm pump. :lmao:

I run a ported motor with 200 psi last time i checked--wide open all day. It's all about the setup. Stock timing with msd enhancer and tbm flywheel. 93 octane and penzoil or quicksilver. Carbs are jetted upside down with big lows and big highs too w/ low popoff. It drinks fuel but makes good power and hasn't blown up yet.
