freestyle ported 780 flat top piston/cyl Question

Well I took a look at my TLR freestyle ported cylinder and compared it to a stocker. I dont think I like what I found. The cylinder had been decked I think 4.5mm, wich I assume is for the flat top pistons. The ports sit 3mm higher then on a stock cylinder, isnt that no good for bottom end???? I am thinking it is more of a race motor, then a freestyle motor, but it is freestyle ported. The motor is the one in my sig for details.......What should I do? Thanks in advance!

Wouldnt that mean less compression because the piston has less air to push>

OK, if it has been set up for a flat top, your ports are not actually higher, the top of the cylinder is lower................ (If I am correct here), I think you actually have to mill the top and bottom of the cylinder........ maybe Paul will pipe in here pretty soon..........

BK is correct, The sleeves must be removed & both the top & bottom of the cyl must be cut..............
On a positive side, Todd @ TLR is one of the best. If he indeed diid the work, you have a good cyl...............
Are you capable of taking good measurements? If so, PM me on Monday with thoses measurements & I'll let you know where you stand.

Paul obviously knows more than I about this. But, what you are discribing is pretty much IDENTICAL to my R&D 86mm flat top set up ported by Tim Judge and it rips. But if I am not mistaken you must run high compression like in the 200's to get power from this set up due to port location. Am I correct on the compression Paul. :cool2:

I took measurements and this is what I got.

What I believe is a bone Stock cylinder is 119mm overal height

The TLR cylinder is 114.5mm overall

The top of the port on the stock cylinder is 38.5mm from top of cyl.
The top of the port on the flat top is 35.5mm from top of cyl.

This would mean the top of the cylinder is decked 3mm, and the bottom is decked 1.5mm.

Does that sound right?
