Freestyle judging in Nashville

Freestyle (pro) has really turned into a boring event based on what the judging rewards. Ratti won with a clean routine, but he only did 3 different tricks, 4 if you count the nohanded roll as different. A bunch of barrel rolls, like 6, 1 nohanded roll, 1 backflip, and 2 spins. That's not freestyle to me, that's a sickest trick competition.

Give me an actual 'routine' any day over a trick every 20 seconds.

Just my opinion.

i think freestyle basically has come down to flips and rolls since malone....with the power available, i think hook tricks and acrobatics are in the past or not worth much in points. And the difficulty of rolls and flips are hard to match..IMO if ratti pulls the only backy and made the routine look easy, than he deserves it. He looked pro,and rode like it ....

AMEN Darrin !!! In AM Freestyle u can go out and throw 3 rolls and be the Champ and in PRO u can throw 1 flip and 2 rolls and be the champ. It is really a huge waste of time and money for any NEW people to go compete unless they can roll or flip. My weekend at Tupelo cost me 600.00 this year to ride for 4 minutes and 850.00 for Nashville to ride for 2 minutes. Kinda crazy-don't u think? I think Freestyle competitors having to pay a 100.00 entry fee is INSANE!!! The PRO's should get paid just to show up and compete!

I think parr and stoyer had the strongest routines. Ratti went the biggest with his rolls and I do think he deserved to win, but parr was by far the most entertaining to watch.

Wait a sec.... I have heard too many times from you that it was all about chillin' and the comradery..........and your buddies getting you to do new stuff, etc.

This sounds like a different Gil

On a side note, I really enjoy watching hood tricks, fountains and old school stuff. Let me be a judge!

It really was boring. Honestly, Stoyer should have won in my eyes, he had the most variety. Parr put on the biggest show, but that is his thing, call him Mr. Show, That is what he did, he gave a great show. Ratti, he did not make any mistakes, that was the only difference.

I felt like Stoyer was strong as well and if judging was based at all on variety then you would have done well in PRO on Sun w/the run u made in AM on Sat!!!

It all boils down to rolls and flips now days which means in PRO u got to have a extreme high dollar ski and in AM u got to have a little PRO in you.

In my opinion riders need to do 1 minute old skool and 1 minute new skool to be cool, BUT, that won't do chit for your score!!!

wow, only one rider........maybe Rattis parents were up there.

Strange though because usually guys like McCluggage judge for us.

Too bad, once again the wrong guy wins

I agree Darin

Stoyer did a great job....lots of "substance" and yeah...P put on another great show......he doesn't seem to mind a cheering crowd:clown: haha

I am more sorry that everyone didn't get to see John's routine...he was on fire....I could sit and watch him for hours! :Banane01:

All of the pro guys were fighting ski issues.........it really put a damper on the competition overall

And why is this??? Because you are now required by the APBA appointed judges to bring a flatwater backflip ski to be competitive and we all know that the HP/hull weight required for flatwater backys will never be a reliable/dependable set up!!!

John Kiser busted his azz to get to Nashville and rode his azz off all to have a MSD part take a chit before competition!!!
Josh Lustic had a trim cable break before competition!!!
Ratti's ski will NOT start w/in the water!!!
Parr was riding a amateurs ski that he had never ridden before because he can't financially stay in the game w/the level of stupidity in the game!!!

I thought this chit was supposed to be fun, the APBA needs to establish guide lines for voting OR let the crowd vote!!!

A racer spends tons of money on a race ski and are given the utmost respect by the APBA. Freestyle guys spend 2 tons of money on their ski's and get no respect. Oh well, I again state this is why freestyle competion has died and will not grow.

well they all seem qualified to me.
I can't imagine what happened.

there is no uniform judging platform to go by!!!

ie-

most tricks completed in 2 min=5pts
backflip=5pts
flare=3pts
roll=2pts
no handed roll=4pts
on and on.

Don't get me wrong-I think Ratti is AWESOME and a breath of fresh air for PRO class-BUT-he only threw 6 tricks in 2 minutes!!!

And one last bitch coming from the 08 biggest loser,

racers get 2 moto's of racing,

freestylers get 2 minutes and pay the same entry fee's-WTF???
Give us 2 rounds of competition or wave the dam entry fee's.

power 360 1pt
bulldog 1pt
assorted other hood tricks 1 pt
blow your mind hood trick 2 - 3 pts (judges discretion)
weak 180 nose stab 1 pt
180 nose stab 2 pts
big throw 2 pts
fountain 1pt
fountain w/1 hand 2 pts
jump back in the tray clean 1pt
barrel roll not clean 1 pt
clean roll 2 pt
1 hander 3 pts
no hander lander 4pts
Twist (flare) 4 pts
backflip or the latest "sick trick" 3 pts (not clean)
Sick trick clean 4 - 5 pts

=

10 clean hood tricks, and 2 rolls = 14 - 16 points

4 sick tricks clean and 3 fills = 17 - 19 points
Talley the scores, and declare the winner

This is how I judged in 06'

Not saying this is the right way just the way I believed to be fair.
It would be a great thing if we actually formatted something, and handed it to the promoters.
I'm sure no competitor would mind, and it would do away with slighting our new Pro Champion.
