Freestyle/Freeride Vs. Racing

since the other thread got severely off track and went down a whole nother avenue than what is was supposed to be

it's basically to each there own. we should be trying to grow the sport, not splitting hairs over which discipline is better than the other

each has its strengths and weaknesses.

it's a debate that is gonna go one because you can't please everyone. you try and pleases the masses but there is still going to be one person that creates the ripple that turns the tide and creates turbulence.

people are trying to compare something that requires different skill sets

not even comparing sitdown/stand up

freestyle vs. stand up racing

requires two different skillsets and mindsets

i never thought i'd see it where even the stand up riders are arguing amongst themselves.....

standup vs. sitdown was inevitable but the stand up vs. stand up civil war that is brewing is coming out of left field..

don't knock it unless you've tried it....

i love running bouys, but flying is what gets me off
racing is expensive and they wine about my footwells
so i freeride
moto-x racers get my brass boys award
i never really worry about hitting the water wether im running laps at 50 or
launching a 30 foot wake to wake behing a big boat

I forgot!
i ride freestyle and set my ski up accordingly but i had an opportunity to enter a beginner class race at the Mike Jansen cup. I raced the ******** outta my freestyle ski with cut hull and hacked up rideplate. everyone had a great time including me, i never raced a ski in my life and once i figured out how to run the buoys i managed to place in the top 5. i have a whole new respect for the racers that pound out 8 laps of that crap. i thought i was going to die after the first 2 laps.

I race, love it. Nothing gets my competative juices flowing better than beating the buy next to me. But, I like to freeride, too. I wish I had the money to set up skis for both, but at this time, it is pretty much all racing for me.

I watched the old races from oceanside with Macc and the rest of the racers. Before that I never been in the surf. Now thats all I do is ride in the surf.

I have a ton of respect for racers that race in the surf. I can barely hang on let alone go wide open over a drop off or wide open in the white water.

racing is expensive

DING DING DING, We have a winner. This is the only reason racing will get a bad rap because it will cost an arm and a leg for most people.

I like just riding on the lake to ride. Doing freestyle tricks are fun, but I also like to run buoys as well and manage to race a bit this year.

No matter what you like, make sure your having fun!!!
