I am trying to put together a Freeride Competition in Southern California and I would like to get a rough estimate of how many people would show up to the event. I need this in order to supply the cities with an economic impact estimate.

The proposed date for the event is September 22nd, 2012 This is one week after Surf Slam and 1 week before World Finals.
Please post whether you would 1. Come to watch, 2.Compete, 3. number of family members that may be coming along.

Thank you for your help!!

Vote once... You can pick one of options 1-3 then if you are taking someone along with you (Noncompetitor), choose the 4th option too

eg: I voted for option 1: Yes, I would compete and I also voted for option 4: I would bring at least one other person with me

is this a freeride comp or just free to ride? id be down to show up and ride but my skills are lacking in the compition portion lol
Comp only... no city in Southern California would ever allow a freeride to just ride. Way too much liability.

But even if you were to just show up to watch, that statistic would greatly benefit my economic analysis I am going to put together for the city.

Done this before, the only place possible to even get a fighting chance is Pacific Beach in San Diego. Even then, your chances are slim. City has hung up the phone on me several times.

Kevin you live in aus now. That means you will have to come back over when wes gets the event squared away! They have done a few events in oceanside in the past 10 years. Dos XX had a freeride comp and race back in 2003 i believe. And an x games ride back in the day. It can happen. Wes if you need some help and are looking into oxide harbor or the pier, I know some people that handle events and permits with the city as well as the mayor. All the oside crew better be there!

Wes has been working with some surf contest promoters who regularly deal with the City of Huntington Beach. They have coached him on what issues the Cities are looking for when making a decision to grant a special use permit. I have seen his rough draft proposal and it has a lot of merit. All things aside, it really boils down to money, or how much revenue the event will bring to the City and its businesses. Wes has this covered in his proposal. What is needed to make something like this happen is support. No City will shut down a section of its beaches so 25 guys can show up and ride. Realistically this event will need to draw a big crowd to even be considered. Wes wants to get an idea of how many people (Competitors, spectators, friends and family) would support an event like this to see if it's even feasible, so vote honestly.
