fpp manifold repair

were the head pipe bolts to the manifold the bolts always vibrate loose. ive tried red locktite, blue locktite and lock washers. it seems the bolts have vibrated the cavity so they are a little loose and that is why they always come loose.

Do the Helicoils and when you put the bolts in, do NOT use lock washers. I don't know what it is with lock washers, but we had the same problem with a 650sx a few years ago. As soon as we ditched the lock washers they never came loose again. I've heard you shouldn't use lock washers on any exhaust bolts/studs. It might be something to do the the heating and cooling causing too much expansion and contraction within the lock washers - causing the bolts to come loose.

Same goes for snowmobiles too. Just use regular washers

The bolts are not backing out. They are loosing tension and getting loose because the thick fiber gasket is crushing. The fix is in using a metal gasket or simply retorquing the headpipe bolts several times durring the first couple of rides. If the threads strip then fix it right with a Heli-Coil, they should have come that way from FP but didn't.
