Super Jet FPP exhaust mani to cylinder bolts?

Instead of all this cutting, hacking, and grinding everyone is talking about, you could just follow FP's instructions for that mani and use timeserts/helicoils on the top two center holes to allow you to install M8 hardware.

"Clean all gasket material from cylinder. Thread the 8 mm nut (item #30) halfway on to one of the 8 x
30 mm bolts (item #29). Thread one of the 8 x 1.25 x 16 mm time serts (item #28) partially onto the
bolt and tighten nut against time sert. Apply red Loctite to time sert and thread into one of the top
two center 10 mm manifold holes in cylinder until nut is flush. Loosen nut and remove the 8 mm
bolt. Repeat procedure for other hole. 8 mm nut is no longer needed. Install the exhaust manifold
gasket (item #20) using the two 8 x 30 mm bolts (item #29). Thread these bolts in about halfway and
then install the Factory Pipe exhaust manifold (item #3)"

I'm sure the question is being asked because some people don't want to permanently install the time serts. Do they just pop out if you decide to go a different route?

My 2 bolts have a 13mm head on them. I took a CHEAP azz 13mm wrench and put it on the bench grinder to make it REAL thin. That makes things ALOT easier!

Even though some are easily removed, I can't think of any reason to ever remove them. What route would you go that requires removing them? fp 61x mani would use timesert/helicoil in same location anyway. If the cylinder ends up getting used with an OEM mani, you just use M8 in that location.

And like Gil says, you may need an assortment of ground down wrenches to fit in there. That's what harbor freight tools are good for!

Go to a bicycle shop and get a stamped sheet metal 13mm wrench, they fit absolutely perfect. You can get reduced hex head stainless bolts from McMaster carr

The two top center bolts need to be shortened or they bottom out before they are fully engaged. Hack a short amount off the tip of the bolt, and take it to a grinding wheel to smooth it out before you install.

What a load of crap. Nothing like buying a "kit" that need modification before use. I understand needing a thin wrench, but bolts the wrong size is horse :):):):). The superjet tool kit includes a 10/12mm wrench and the 12mm side is thin enough to fit onto the head of the bolt and turn with the manifold in the way. However, the bolt bottomed out before the manifold even touches the gasket. What crap. Shouldn't sell a "kit" that doesn't include the right parts. Good thing I don't need to buy a wrench AND a grinder.
