Team Scream does that mod also. More air in equals the need to get more air out. Although it is pressurized, consider that you often have dual 48mm carbs on the inlet side of the motor (pump) so it only seems reasonable to have at least the same diameter on the outlet side (alternating exhaust pulses allow a single exhaust to handle it).

I had one of the original B pipes from 1994 and it had the 42mm opening. I opened it up a few years ago when I went to my 760. I had not read the article but I just figured that if I had 46mm carbs I should at least have an opening on the exh side. That is a good aticle, Harry Klemm knows his shizzle.:hail:

I had to learn that a long time ago with my XI"R" 750 kaws in mod 785 runabout class with MRD fuel injection. No time for detonation just a smoked out piston with the MRD system, but it made lot of horsepower...Headpipe size was one of the many cures we needed then.
