I found a 1976 400 in great condition for sale, but the dude doesn't have a title. Is there a way to get a title? he says he has a bill of sale. I really want this ski because of the condition, but I don't want to buy it unless I can get a title. can I get a title with the bill of sale or is there just no hope? thanks

there is plenty of hope i dont know how much it will cost or how long it will take but you can take that bill of sale to the dmv and they would hook you up with a title

you don't have to have a title. I live in NJ but bought my SXR from Connecticut just with bill of sale. When I went to register it I asked about getting title. DMV said it's came without one and I don't need one. If I going to sale it I just have to wright bill of sale and nothing more

In MI you need the title, unless the state it came from does not use titles. Lots of skis are getting parted out here, because our Secretary of State is not allowing buyers to get a title if it was not provided at the time of sale.

If the guy with the 76 js400 is the registered owner, he should be able to get the proper paperwork by applying for it at the DMV.

does it have the HIN #'s on it? If so, go to your DMV and ask them if the guy you are buying from is the owner. Then he can request a duplicate title.

The title problem depends on your state. if it was in FL you'd be almost SOL. Some states all you need is a bill of sale from the last registered owner to transfer ownership . There are always ways around not having a title.

When was the last year the ski was registered. IF it was before they enacted the title law then you just have to work it out with them about the fact that it was not titled before because there were no titles at the time. (If this is the case)

There is a way to get title- Get a bill of sale, but under the address use a non titleing state like Kansas. Take your MO numbers off the Hull, find the MO Water Patrol, they will look at the bill of sale and hull ID VIN and call it in to see if its stolen. When it comes back clean- ITS YOURS!!!! They will issue you a paper to take to the DMV for title. If it is regesteration is old it works great, but current regestered ones you need to come up with an excuse that a guy just bought it in Kansas has had it less than 30 days and is reselling it.
