Forums request: Topics in Depth

Something to ponder this weekend:

I'd like to see a reoccuring trend started where a moderator starts a topic, makes it a sticky for a given time, and that topic is then hashed out in depth until the time limit expires (maybe 2 or 3 weeks), then is unstickied and a new topic put up. This has been a great thing on other forums that I visit, a certain 4x4 site in particular. It is really a great help to noobs like me to get all of the information in one place. I have gone through the tech section of this site, and really, this would end up providing more in depth threads to post in the tech section.

As an example (and request), lets take fiberglassing or composites work in general. I'd like to see everything from a basic how to, to what materials and chemicals are available for which, to some finished products. Get as much information as possible on the topic. The title of the thread would read: TID: Composites. (where TID stands for topic in depth, or use TOTW for topic of the week, etc).

Any input? Requests? Dumb idea? Lets have it.

Not a bad idea actually. Pick topics like "winterizing" and "installing hydroturf" and maybe even installing certain mods. Could be interesting and helpful.

Its not as formal as your requesting but check out the Tech FAQ, the mods to the site have posted many detailed write-ups and links to similiar discussions.

I have searched the Tech section quite a bit, and acually, gone through most of them. It is very helpful, but missing a lot of topics.

The reason for my request, since I am new here, I can see what others like myself would really benefit from. Many times I search and search for a quick answer to my questions and come up with nothing, or too much info to search through.

The veterans here get tired of answering the same questions over and over again, and many times questions posted are answered with the response of "search" or a link to one of the tech topics is given. This would give the moderators more threads to use in the tech section, so it would get even bigger than it is. Plus, things that get brought up over and over again could be hashed out such as the great 61x/62x debate, and those famous Roundnose handle pole on a Square threads that there seems to be a hundred of.

Maybe the Mods can talk it over. If so, cool. If not, oh well. I've just seen this type of thing work great. It could even be a monthly thing, that would not require too much effort from the mods.

Honestly, the Tech FAQ does exactly what you want, because it links to active threads that keep getting added to.

Most topics I can think of, have already been put in there, and michael950 has done an awesome job of adding/reorganizing it.
