Forgot what this piece does...please help

While reassembling the ski, I've forgotten what this thing does and what connects to the other side. Is it just a breather for the tank? If so, is the other side supposed to be open like that?

i thought it was a water separator for the gas lines

tank breather line air/water seperator. one side to tank vent check valve, the other was supposed to go up the handle pole

No thats the water separator for the fuel tank vent.. One goes to the separator, one to the tank, with a check valve that only lets air in between the tank and separator. I just took it out and pulled the line from the check valve and just use it.
