Foot Holds on JS550

I have got two JS-550 and I am thinking about taking the one with the bilge pump and putting foot holds in.
Going to try and get down the shore and ride with Pete and Powder. Don’t know if it would be worth putting the foot holds in on this type of ski. Or wait till I can get the money and buy a super Jet . Will I need them in the surf?

The question is whether or not you need them. Half of the guys I ride with in surf don't have them because they ride waves and launch off of them. If you happy just doing that, then footholds will just get in the way. You can do stabs without them but it is safer to have them. If you want to learn rotations such as overrotated stabs, rolls and stuff like that, they are a must. Personally I would just use some lifter wedges in the 550 and save up for a superjet.

The footholds in a 550 widen the very narrow tray. Regardless of your stance, they do help on the one I ride.

Do you NEED them, no. Are they nice to have and worth the work, yes.

Wow, i think i will take a few days off in the spring and spend some time with Powder. Then i will see if i need the foot holds. i think i will spend my winter time looking for a super jet project ski

I got it, pound 550 in the surf and then buy a Super Jet.

When I first met you, I could barely ride the 550. I moved up to the SXI 750 and rode that in the suft. It was nice, but I always wanted to try a superjet. I bought an SJ at the end of the season that had some nice work done to it. I rode that thing in the surf and loved it! Power and weight is amazing compared to other skis I've ridden. You're more than welcome to try any three of mine. I actually moved near Camden, NJ. Where are you again?

Mark, i like the thread.
One of our skis need a new paint job, so this project is something to consider when the end of the season comes around. i think it is time to reinforce the front and ride.
Lots of pictures to look over and plan for the fall.
