I'm putting in footholds for my buddy and didnt realize that kawi foam was the
styrofoam type. Is it ok to foam them back in with 3lb expanding foam will it bond or will there be issues?

From what I have read on here, most guys are going with the 4lb expanding foam. There is also a lot of caution when foaming footholds on the SXR. The drain port on the back of the boat is open to the bottom of the hull meaning that there is no tube connecting it to the engine comparment. A couple of guys have put foam in and it expanded and plugged up the drain hole.

You need to block off that drain plug completely from the engine compartment, or that new foam will just hold water and weight. I put in a scupper instead so no water is getting in or out of the foam area.

Just out of curiousity, has anyone installed a tube, sealed at the firewall, and kept the stock plug. This would prevent any water from getting back there and weighing down the ski. I was also thinking about lining the right footfold with a bag on the inside. This way you could foam in the bag, fill the gaps, and keep it from filling up the drain hole.

yeah it happened I foam up the drain plug funny huh especially after I bought a duck bill for it.

So I am starting my footholds on my sxr and I found that a 1/2" PVC pipe slides right through the drain port and will work nicely as a drain tube with the duckbill. With this sealed off at both ends, you can eliminate the water getting back into the rear of the ski which could soak any expanding foam that is put in. Just an idea for those not wanting to put in a scupper.

I am re-doing my footholds and adding a scupper, no about foam, should i even put any back in the ski? Im also citting 1.5 inches off the back, so i will be able to pull all the old stock foam out, should i use some 4lbs foam to seal it up or just run it without the foam?

The Kawi foam in the SXRs is different. It is the same type that is around you gas can and such. I would leave it and or trim to fit. I would not add expanding foam that may be water logged.

I just played with foam for the first time last week, everybody prob already knows this but a little foam goes along way LOL. Also I was doing some research on the x before I hacked into my ski, I came across this thread and read about foam getting in the drain plug, so I shoved a broom handle in the plug while I foamed worked pisser
