Foaming an x-metal pole

So after riding two weekends with my new x-metal pole, I have noticed that it is harder for me to recover from falling on my side, or from coming up from a big nose stab with the x-metal pole b/c of the lack of buoyancy compared to the stock pole (without taking my feet out of the tray). I have never owned a ski with an after market pole before, so this is a new feeling to me.

I was thinking about foaming the inside of the pole to help with recovering and also to have a little more flotation in case my ski sinks.

Is there a closed cell two part expanding foam I could use? Is this idea even feasible? I probably will not end up doing it b/c of the work involved, but it'd be nice to get some of your guy's ideas on this.

Just plain me....
Give it time to get used to it. I too just had my second weekend riding with my new Xmetal. I love it, but I can tell I'm still having to adjust a bit. It's just being different than what I am used to.

hmm... interesting, but this is gonig to make your pole even heavier. i'd say don't do it.

you'll get used to the pole, give it some time.

if the pole is stiff, the weight is negligible IMO b/c you can't feel how heavy it is anyways. And when it comes to adding weight to the whole ski... it is a surf boat... weight doesn't really matter that much.

haha... gotcha...

okay... what about a different route... how about some type of air bag that can be inflated and left in there, and if I need to remove, just deflate it...

is there any product like that?

I guess you could shove a bicycle tube in there if you can do it without tearing up the tube.

I would just give it another try to see if you can just get used to the pole. The other peeps I know that own one have. My.02 cents.

keep runnig it, you will get use to it... I honsestly have not heard of that or had that problem...

I don't think you could get enough flotation in the pole to make it boyant.. ya never know though..

dont foam it and just get used to it, i dont think it can be that much diff:squint:

i know I'll get used to it, but there is a difference, other wise I wouldn't posted this question.

Before when I would get stuck on my side with both feet in the foot holds, I would be able to gas it and get back up to standing/riding position, and now when I am caught on my side it is harder to just gas it and get back to the standing/riding position, I have to pull me feet from the wells, then get on my knees to standing.

hmmm i hear ya, i usually just re-mount with one foot in the middle of the tray that way i can kinda push the ski down and transfer my weight a little better
