Looking to get rid of carpeting in my front room. This is the room you enter my house thru. So, it's heavily used. I am constantly vacuuming and shampooing it. Rug is way too light in color and shows everything. Its also 23 years old. Plus I live on the water, so it sees lots of muddy feet (dogs and people), beach sand, you name it. Need to ditch the carpet and replace with something that is highly durable, water resistant, pet friendly etc. Leaning towards some of the 'fake' wood flooring. I don't want to see scratches and I never want to have to refinish it. Low maintenance/high durability/dirt hiding. So many choices out there, but don't know what brands to look at and which to avoid.

This room also has a staircase that leads to my master bed/bath. Currently stairs have same carpet as room I am looking to update. That carpet needs to go away as well. So do they make treads that match whatever fake flooring I pick? Or do I go with oak treads and try to match the flooring? Or.......?

Recommendations please.

I've had great success with VLP (Luxury Vinyl Plank). It comes in varying thickness, plenty of colours, and is affordable and can be installed quickly. I wouldn't try to cap the stairs in it however. Some manufactures offer the bull-nosing for stairs but in my opinion it just wont hold up. Go with oak capping and get a close stain match.

I've put down 10,000+sqft of this product in the last few years with 0 complaints from homeowners with dogs. Only thing that seems to scratch it so far is large appliances being moved over it. Doubt it will be availably locally south of the boarder but thought I'd share what they can look like

Best of luck - Post some before and after pictures please

Thank you! I have 2 LL's within 10 miles of me and they both offer the CoreLuxe products. I may have to swing by at lunch or after work.

I would go with a Porcelain Tile with tight joints. You can get a wood look in 6" x 36" or 48". Dark color grout. Easy to clean, durable. Go with a Urethane type grout (Single component premix grout in a bucket).

I installed this in my bathroom and hallway, the stuff is easy to cut and assemble. It has held up excellent so far with 4 years of use! The boxes are much heavier than you'd expect though, its not much fun to move around ha.

I've got porcelain tile in my dining room, and if I have socks on I turn into Michelle Kwan. And I'm getting old and can't afford to break a hip.

I agree with the vinyl plank route. Just installed this in a buddy’s house, and am gonna put it in mine this winter. Comfortable when barefoot too. One thing you want to pay attention to is the wear layer. The bigger this is, the more abuse it can take and still show the original pattern and color. NuCore is really good for this, and has a lot of colors, textures, and thickness variations. Good pricing too. They are available from Floor and Decor stores. We did some separate researches and both decided this was the brand to go with.

Its almost depressing after you open up a box and realize there is only 4 damn pieces lol. Stuff is brutal to move in large quantities. If you getting it for more than one room 100% pay for delivery. You dont want to lift this product more than once
