Freestyle flat water and surf ski question .

hey everyone. been outta the loop for quite a while with the freeride and freestyle skis and it seems in the past 3 years that the selection for hull/motor combos are endless.
what would yall recommend for a ski that is capable of flat water BF but can also handle big surf for freeriding and be reliable?
thanks for the info/

you are talking about a contradiction
A ski that can flat water flip needs lots O power and a light hull that is not what you want for surf. Quite the opposite.
what is your budget?

it really depends, if i decide to build something over winter i can spend more, but if i were to buy someone else ski prob around 6 grand... i love the look of the rickter hulls.

Well......... with a rickter your already over budget and thats just the hull.
you will be hard pressed to get a QUALITY ski that will flat water flip for 6k I would says its not possible.
QUALITY flat water flip ski = 10k minimum.
its not worth building a flat water ski that will flip unless you plan on competing and you are in good physical condition!
unless you have deep pockets and all you want to do is flip.

I dont mean to be rude about it.
you could get a inexspensive square nose for the surf and save for a aftermarket hull and some BRAP.

Surf the forums for a while and soak up all you can. Weston has good points. One hull that has come up in discussions lately, is the Superfreak. This one seems to do both well, from what I have read. It comes in different configurations, but... Reading up may treat you the best. Probably not what you wanted to hear.

thanks for the info guys, my head is hurting from all the reading ive been doing. how do you think the ricker surf hull would do on flat water? you think it would be to heavy?

Yes. Unless you get the $9k carbon hull. Which is still significantly heavier (and more expensive) than other carbon hulls.

I was about to buy a Rickter but passed. Love them in the surf but don't care for them on flat water. I think it takes a LOT of motor to flat water flip them too.

when i think flatwater backflip i think 20k+$ freestyle specific boat, not to mention the constant maintenance, something your NOT going to want to abuse in the ocean.
its a trade off, and you really cant, dont want to have both. you would be better off building two skis, a flatwater boat and a cheap surf boat.
