First time build - FX-1

Ok to all the newbs like me who are following this, here is a lesson you can learn from my stupid mistakes. Normally I buy the tools I need for a job and above all else I hate borrowing things. For some reason I suddenly decided to become a cheap bastard. I borrowed a spray gun from my step dad that neither he nor I knew anything about. He won it at a company party so he had no idea what it was. Instead of doing some research like a normal human being I figured I would just go with it naively. Also, I have been putting off buying an air compressor so I borrowed a small one not realizing how much air you need for a paint gun. The result was a gun that clogged immediately and did nothing but splatter primer all over my hood. I couldnt get it to spray at all. It turns out that the gun was a 22 dollar POS gun from harbor freight that requires ungodly amounts of air to work, and then I was trying to use a tiny a$$ air compressor that wouldnt have even had enough air for a premium gun. What a moron I am. Anyways, I made a call and got some advice from a friend. After a trip to lowes and then home depot I now have a brand new 20 gallon air compressor and a 120 dollar HVLP gun sitting in my garage. It still may not be perfect equipment but it gets me started. Tomorrow night I'll try and spray the primer.

You are definitely gonna wanna keep those holes in your hood open they are stock and do help with air flow to the engine a lot which as you know is extremely important and you can always sand or put a small guard around the end he's if you think they are rough, I'll post pictures of what I did

I didnt sand the hood lip area good enough I guess so there were a few spots where the primer was cracking. Took a long lunch and went and bought some more primer, sanded the first coat for good measure, and sprayed another coat of primer.

This Shoul be called the FML thread. How do I get this expanding foam off if my paint without ruining my paint? Why didnt I cover the holes? Well...cuz I'm a moron. poop!!!!

depends on how strong your paint is. I would soften it up with acetone and take plastic scraper to it. Pressure washer is another good way, but if you are not careful and/or the paint is weak, it may come off.

tried a pressure washer and that just took off the chunks. yup acentone takes it off, along with the F&^ing clear coat and paint. Looks like I'm repainting. Im so mad im about to Effing cry.

Beings the clear was sprayed yesterday... I'd bet it etched into the clear... Sanding it out might be your only hope... Though a pressure washer might take the foam off, it will most likely do the same to the clear...

To be honest, there isn't anything that I have found that will dissolve two part polyurethane foam once it has set. If you catch it before it sets, acetone will stop the reaction and dissolve the foam. I would cut as much off as you can, then very carefully sand out the rest. You are going to have to hit that area with paint again. Unless someone else knows something that will attack only the polyurethane and leave your clear coat intact.

Out of everything that I have worked with, polyurethane foam is the worst when it comes to cleaning up

ya Im in the process of sanding that area and masking everything off again right now. Wont be able to paint till tuesday when it warms up again, which really pisses me the hell off because i was hoping to have this buttoned up so i could ride tuesday. Oh well, its my own damn fault for rushing and not paying attention to stupid things. "Slow down, you'll go faster." I'm throwing my timetable out the window so that maybe I'll start to relax a little. If its done by 2016 I'll be happy....
