First fiberglass job

I am blindly diving into my first fiberglass job on my square nose. layed my first glass yesterday and i was looking over it today and found several spots where there is a little air gap between the new glass and old body (mostly near the edges) would you recomend cutting these spots out and laying more glass over the top. or not worry about it and lay more glass (i'm going 2 layers regardless) also wondering what grit sand paper you use at first to sand the glass down for the next layer? i was using 60 grit. thanks for any help.

i agree. cut it out and reglass. 60 grit is fine.
the only thing i would recommend in the future for MAXIMUM strength is to lay the second layer right after the first. that way they are chemically bonded and cure together as one piece.

thanks for the tips. i have a square nose that was cracked up in the front so i cut the hole nose off. i 2 part foamed the front and shaved it so it is rounded. i was afraid to lay both layers at the same time because i wasn't sure how it was going to turn out. in hind sight i would have slapped it all on together. i used 17 oz biax and wished i would have went thinner to squeeze around the curves. but you live and learn. thanks again for the replys.

yep. definitely using epoxy resin. right now i'm using the medium speed cure. i wish i would have bought the fast cure. i'll get some pics up soon. I do have one more question. when filling in the hood lip area (i'm using 1/2" chop) do you just do the sides and bulk head sides? or do you do the front too? and if you do the front. how? there is so much space to fill that just runs into the nose. i suppose i could just lay a piece of glass in there but wondering what everyone else does. thanks

thanks for the info guys. one more question. What do you guys think about using pvc for a new exhaust pipe? or should i just leave the stock one in there and reseal the ends?
